Half The Battle

Sep 07, 2005 12:41

From WWDN:
So now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

I have often wondered about the expression...

Half of what battle?

And in what war? I figure it has to be a current war, so the war of independence, civil war, and Vietnam are right out. The war in Iraq? The war on poverty? Illiteracy? The drug war? Is it a mob war?

And if knowing is only half the battle, what is the other half? I know showing up counts as a percentage... And then there is inspiration and perspiration... And lets not forget overwhelming force, shock and awe, and superior fire power.

I think its a much more complex formula then:

battle = knowing + x

where x is the unknown (unknowable, perhaps?) rest of the battle.

Well that was a momentary distraction from the moral dilema I find myself in...

UPDATE

Apparently, I forgot the war on Katrina...

...at the White House, which has moved to what one GOP congressional staffer called an "all-hurricane war footing."
