Today was the last day of school until next Wednesday. It's nice to get a break.
Even if I have to work at the apartment's stupid dango stand.
I ran out of class so I wouldn't be held up by the clingy classmate. I made it outside, in the free and clear, only to be stopped by just one of the two Buddhist club guys on campus that knows me! I was held there for a good half an hour. To escape one only to become trapped unexpectedly by another...has to be some twisted Buddhist karma.
Tam and I went up to Daimonji while the weather was still decent. It's cold and windy, but survivable. The hard part about biking to Daimonji is that it's uphill one way, what with it being a mountain, and gets quite tiring on bike 2/3 of the ways up.
Today was really busy. I do like the souvenir shops, I'm already trying to figure out what types of souvenirs to bring back for everyone. A lot of the shops have the same things, but each shop varies just a little. I see so many things I want to buy. Nothing I need, just desire really badly. I haven't felt like this since I was a kid around Christmastime. It's a weird, interesting feeling to have reemerge after all these years of not feeling it. Luckily Tam feels the same.
I do like seeing things that I would never see in America, such as guys wearing flower printed shirts, guys in all black wearing hot pink tennis shoes, and an old dog being pushed around in a wheelchair. I like the sights and smells of Daimonji, it was comforting. I also like being able to hold small conversations with the store owners.
I bought myself a belt. There's a shop where everything is $10. It's a really pretty belt and I needed one really badly. Being able to walk around without having to (discreetly) hold up your loose pants is great.
Despite the cold, Tam and I bought an ice cream. Caramel flavored ice cream is the best ice cream on earth, hands down.
Surprisingly, when I returned home, I recieved an e-mail from R-Pool, the first place that I went to be interviewed at. I had assumed that they would never hook me up with someone to tutor, so I quickly dismissed it. Turns out that they have found two children that I might be able to teach, which would equal an extra 5000 yen ($40) a week. It's only 2 hours a week, but would help with groceries and whatnot. I'm also looking at a possible jazz club in Minami...going to look into that more. But if the interview goes well, I will be tutoring for 2 hours a week.
Going to try to go to the sentou tonight.
The busiest tourist street of Daimonji:
What the average souvenir shop contains. Hello Kitty is still popular here, it scares me.
A small creek that runs along the area. Note how there are still flowers blooming.
The bottom of this sign says "Mary Poppins".
Caramel ice cream owns all.
