Treks After Midnight: A Continuing Tidbit..

I saw the fox again.

I wasn't even looking for it.  This was the first time since the last entry I wrote about my walks in Homeland that I actually went out on a walk after 12:30am.  First off I was bemused to see, in the dark, two small shapes scuttling in my direction across the street as I entered the community: Rats, one chasing the other.  The chasee ran past me and continued on, but the chaser stopped and halted in my shadow right beside my foot (I had stopped walking to simply watch).  As small animals will, when I eventually moved to keep walking, so did it, running parallel to me before ducking away.

If I were to describe this to Mommavix, she'd probably shed her skin; her reaction to rodentia is somewhat on par with Henry Jones senior's.  But then I don't plan to tell her I've been taking post-midnight sojourns anyway, so...

A few minutes later as I was rounding onto St. Alban's Way, I saw about twenty yards ahead a familiar, tawny, slender not-cat-yet-small-dog-sized creature with a bushy white-tipped tail trotting gamely across the street.  It stopped, and we simply stared at each other for a little while.  Then it melted into the bushes and vanished.  I hadn't expected to see the fox ever again, much less the very next time I went out at night, on that particular street in that particular time.  Coincidence truly is a funny thing!

I'm glad I decided to go out, something I'd been putting off lately due to my shifted (yet still temporary) work schedule.  The week's been annoying, but I feel refreshed and better already. :)

foxes, night walks, cool story bro
