"Is this faith in Jack’s ability to do the extraordinary, that Ianto knows that Jack has knowledge above and beyond most humans or is it his blind faith in Lisa still being in there and wanting her back or is it his own guilt that he has failed coming through and he just can’t seem to step off the path?"
All of it. More than anyone one else Ianto seems to have the most faith in Jack.
When Ianto is pointing the gun at the team, the expression of fear on his face makes it pretty clear that he will not shoot any of them.
Yep I'm with you that you can't nail Ianto's thoughts in this episode down to one thing, there is just too much going on. Although shhhh don't tell that to a certain group cause they will bring up that Ianto didn't sit by his body in EoD's bit....
What I contrast that scene with Ianto with the gun is with Jack in EoD's. Jack only points the Gun at Gwen, he talks to Owen and Tosh but doesn't look away from Gwen. When he talks about Ianto, he looks directly at Ianto and when he talks to Gwen he looks at her and finally lowers the gun, so she can sock him one. This was such a contrast to Ianto who was flitting that gun back and forth depending on who was trying to reason with him. He seemed actually more submissive with a gun in his hand, but take it away and put a gun to his head and he becomes all defiance. Such an interesting contrast.

Definitely a rare moment when you see him at his most vulnerable and he's not trying to con or manipulate others. He makes it easy for Jack to take away the gun, and once Jack has it, they get into a power dynamic that he seems more comfortable with. It also makes me wonder if he knows that Jack isn't going to shoot.
What was also intriguing about Ianto with a gun was his body posture, slumped up against the wall. Take the gun away and he was more upright and rigid.
Oh he dares Jack to shoot him later just after they kill Lisa 2.0 and then he turns his back. I think one of the things that attracts Ianto to Jack is Jack's sense of honour, I think he does suspect that Jack won't shoot, but he still takes the chance that he might.
The four week suspension was in the Captain's Blog, which is or isn't canon, depending on who you believe, right? Or do we have definite confirmation that it is indeed canon? On the actual ep we have no idea how much time passed before Ianto's return to the Hub. The cut lip certainly makes it seem like the next day or so.
James Moran wrote the Captain's Blogs and they were approved by the Production staff before they appeared on the website.
I have contacts who work in La La land and they have been involved in those sorts of spin off materials in the past. Production staff consider those materials canon, most writers consider their materials canon as they are paid to write under the 'official' banner and they have very strict guidelines they have to follow.
I knew that Jack and Ianto would eventualy be shown to be lovers. But it hadn't been shown at the time of Cyberwoman. I came away from this episode very worried . I didn't see how Ianto could ever begin sleeping with the man he holds responcible for the death of Lisa. When it started to look like they had a relationship before Cyberwoman that solved the problem for me. I'm very happy to see the evidence of that relationship. I still think they were actually having sex before Cyberwoman. But I can see that is not proved.
“One day I’ll have the chance to save you, and I’ll watch you suffer and die”
That statement sounded so much like forshadowing I kept waiiting for the other shoe to drop. It just occured to me that he did stand by and watch Jack die twice during the finale, and regretted it. Although it is questionable that he ever had a chance to save Jack in those situations.
Have you seen the deleted scenes from EoD's? There was a scene with Tosh, Ianto and Jack that took place at the same time as Gwen and Rhys down in the Vaults and then the extended scene of Jack and Gwen in the field prior to Abaddon. Those scenes were cut purely for a timing issue and they wanted to keep them in but could not fit them. There is a fabulous line from Ianto which explains so much about him and shows that those words said in the heat of the moment back in Cyberwoman, he has moved on. Plus Jack repeats the line to Gwen while in the field which turns the scene that many see as a Gwack moment to a Janto one. I think Jack chose her because he knew that she wouldn't be able to stop him and that she would stay out of the way and be safe if he ordered her to as she wants to live to be with Rhys. So even in its cut state now, that scene isn't really a Gwack moment to me

GDL and Chris Chibnall in the commentary said that Jack's lip didn't heal that quickly because it was not life-threatening.

It has to be the next day then to tie in with the 4 week suspension that they gave him. 4 weeks for a cut lip seems wrong.
