Other notes for ‘A night of Pleasure and Education’:
Below are some notes with links and images to clothes and art that inspired some of the story.
The art referenced on the wall in Madam Brown’s is a copy of
this Titian painting. It was very common for artists to copy works which they saw while on the Grand Tour and that painting was publicly displayed in Venice at the time of this story.
The language of the fans is very important for conversation during the Georgian period. Two sites were helpful in this respect.

There are a few sites and tumblrs that were very helpful -
http://omgthatdress.tumblr.com/ and
http://historicalfashion.tumblr.com/tagged/regency. The first tumblr has such gorgeous clothes from all eras, but there were some specific and magnificent Georgian/Regency clothes which definitely gave me ideas.
Men’s clothing

here Scotty’s waistcoat - image from
here This one is too early, as it is for the period 1795 - 1805, but it does give a rough idea of a man’s ensemble - image from
here You can just see the stockings and knee breeches on one of the men and the hairstyles, as well as a quizzing glass and the huge sideburns were very important to a man’s masculinity
Day wear for men, but you can see the front fall on the pants - image from

here Dress from 1805 - 1810, note how see through the material is - image from
here This was designed to be worn over petticoats, which were often ‘dampened’ to make the material cling to the body
Ariel’s ‘look’ with the darker petticoat
Not all women wore white for evening dresses - image from
here If you read a regency story and it mentions a corset, then the author hasn’t fully researched the period.
A corset was not terminology which was used in the period as it is a Victorian word. Stays is the right terminology and they were not always worn as the picture there shows. Further information about stays
here and
here.
Finally, this link shows the front opening reveal on a regency dress - images
here I hope that these were of interest to people. I know that I could spend all day looking at the gorgeous clothes from this period.
