and yet they maintain a professional distance, I so wanted to see them actually touching, but they come close but don't do it. They try to keep work and personal separate it seems
For two men who don't like others to get close to them, they are very comfortable together
Brilliant point. And that scene illustrates that in terms of both physical and emotional intimacy *nods*
Not once has Ianto turned to look at him, Jack knows this man without having to see his face
Oh, absolutely. It’s quite an odd scene (in a nice way!) but it wouldn’t have worked if they’d been face to face.
later when reviewing in the film in Jack's office, Jack again does his not looking at Ianto. But interestingly they end up mirroring each other when they are in each others line of sight.
I think a lot of the episode runs along that particular theme, but that picture captures it beautifully.
Mirroring again
It’s so noticeable in this episode. I know it’s because they spend so much time together, and it’s obviously deliberate. But I think it might also be because in most episodes they are staged in a much more contrasting way; usually, one or the other is given a ‘higher’ position (not that way!) and that’s what we’re used to. The

If they aren't mirroring, then Ianto is placed very much at Jack's right hand side, or just to his back. He was very deliberately staged in S2.
I'm glad you can see the things that I have as well. For all the flaws of this episode it was beautifully shot and staged.
Agree totally on the final point. I never saw Jack with anyone else. He and Ianto are actually very alike in many ways. But Ianto is also still a mystery to Jack and he at times can second guess him and at other times he has no clue. John Hart finds Ianto intriguing as well.....
Again, aren't you being too positive about their relationship? Don't get me wrong, I do ship them with whole my heart, but is it Jack who backs off to give Ianto some personal space? Or is it Jack who just does not want to get too involved, which he's afraid he might be already, so he retreats and runs away from his lover? Isn't Ianto sort of left alone with his pain after seeing so many deaths? There's no comfort for him from Jack, honestly, apart from the "we save someone, after all" moment, which Ianto doesn't really see as this wonderful.
Did you actually see that Jack walks towards Ianto? How can walking towards someone be classed as "runs away from his lover"? Ianto is the one that walks away from Jack, not Jack walking away from Ianto.
I meant the cinema scene. When Jack walks away and Ianto is left alone, looking at the empty screen. And in the last scene yes, it's Ianto who walks away but Jack also doesn't follow, is not truly interested in getting out of him what's bugging the younger man. He seems to be thinking it's better to leave Ianto by himself. Or maybe he just doesn't feel like being his shoulder to cry on. I, once again, do not know what to make of it but I wouldn't go so far to say it's love and caring.
The problem with using words in FOOTR is that it was a very badly written episode. It pretty much comes as everyones least favourite and that is mainly due to the writing. But we can only go on what we are given

Love that part. And all the mirroring bits - you don't notice that in motion all the time, but it's very clear in the stills! (You have one broken image, btw.)

I try my best....
Oh that episode was one whole mirror of the two of them, which was appropriate as it was the Jack and Ianto show.

I've never noticed how close to each other they were while talking to Christina.

For all the flaws in this episode, it was very revealing about the two of them and was beautifully filmed / staged.
