So. First week of classes is underway for Spring quarter. I have an exam on Monday in my A&P class. Yup, section exam on day 6 of the 11 week quarter. Good thing I have some free time this weekend!
But the exciting (ish) thing is that my car is hurt! Mary, the woman I babysit for, backed her infinity right into the drive's door of my little mazda on Monday. I was in her car, and we were taking the kids out. She felt awful, and I cannot open my door from the outside. This is problematic.
Fast forward a couple days and I have dealt with calling insurance companies, arranging repairs, and scheduling pickup of a rental. Her insurance will pay for the rental while my car is in the shop, not before, so we have been limping along on one car for a few days. Dale's been great about letting me use his car. I will meet with her inscurance adjuster at 12:30 today, then take my car and the check they write to my mechanic (more about him in a minute.) Any costs beyond the check the issue will be paid directly to the mechanic. As for the rental care, I just have to walk into Enterprise, and give them my claim number. It is directly across the street from my mechanic!
So Don, the man who will be repairing my car, is fantastic. He came recommended by the Mazda dealership, since they don't do body work. He told me that his job is to take care of me. I felt really comfortable with him.
For what it's worth, I feel like dealing with all of this is kind of a rite-of-passage. I'm feeling like a grown-up.
Last night, Dale and I went to UW to see Jim Butcher, of the Dresden Files and the Codex Alera series. (They're both a series, so how do you write that as multiple? Serieses? Serie?) He's super funny and super personable. It was a good time, even though Dale couldnt't stick around to get the books signed (he went into work 3 hours late as is) so I got a ride home from a man we met there. (Dont't worry, the University Bookstore employee hosting the event was a friend of his, and vouched for his character. Plus Dale got his business card [they're both in the same line of work] and I made it home in one piece.)
Speaking of Dale, did I mention the job stuffs? His interview is tomorrow, and he has requested a raise. Kicker is, if they give him just $2 more per hour, he loses his ability to bill for overtime (contract stuffs.) Lately he's billing between 44 and 50 hours on his long weeks, so any raise needs to take that into consideration. No sense taking a pay cut, effectively. He doesnt' necessarily need more money, but extra vacation or something would add up too.
So. That's all that's new in my world! My little computer is about to die, and I need to spend an hour or so on my Statistics class (which is in 90 mins) so off I go!
