Idea In Progress: Hide Your Items!

Oct 06, 2010 00:39

So, recently I had an idea. It was supported by a very scientific study, and now I've reached a point where I must move forward with this idea or let it go. And Gods help me, I'm actually going to move forward with it. I'll explain below in the normal sized, normal colored text.

Last year I was in a depression all year. Possibly before last year. I ( Read more... )

chocolate, healthy snacks, depression, withdrawl

I definitely have SAD (a diagnosis and everything) and I've found working by a window makes it much, much more manageable.

This is an encouraging entry to read-yay! I've found the same results from similar experiments, and honestly, regular exercise is the best depression-buster I've found. I used to not get much of that, apart from long walks, but it all started with yoga once a week, and then commuting by bike, and eventually I started lifting free weights... nothing too YMCA, but I'm still fitter than I've been at any other point of my life.

I disagree with algor_langeaux; I think it's far healthier to have sugar in reasonable amounts, than any of that fake sugar crap, and sugar is definitely than high-fructose corn syrup (or high-fructose anything). With real sugar, your body is more aware when it's received enough energy intake. If you have low-cal stuff, what ends up happening is you take in about the same number of kilojoules (or 'calories' or whatever the old-fashioned measurement is) but more food, so you actually gain weight.

Aaaaanyhow, the real reason I'm writing is to get back in touch. I'm actually in the middle of writing e-mail to your yahoo address; I hope that works. Check your spam filters for purpletrafficlight.net mail (although I don't think Yahoo's spam filter is nearly as overzealous as GMail's). The main question: are you still in Nebraska? Or actually, would you like me to stop by to see you on my road trip around the U.S. and Canada next northern summer? If so, which city do you live in? And would you like to camp with us at Burning Man again next year?

Hey, great to hear from you. I'm still in Nebraska, in Lincoln. If you're coming through the area at some point I'd love to see you. Lincoln isn't terribly exciting, but we'd have a lot of catching up to do, so that probably wouldn't matter much.

I don't think I'll be able to make Burning Man next year yet. I've hit a rough spot in the book I've been writing for a very long time now, and until I get through it and actually finish and publish I'm trying not to join in on large-scale activities like Burning Man. Sometime down the road I'm hoping to be able to make it again, and when that happens I'd love to camp with the folks I hung around with in '07. I had a great time, and everyone was really nice.

I'll look for your e-mail, but you can always get ahold of me on LJ, and my Facebook handle is the same as my LJ handle. If you're on that one, look me up when you get a chance. {hugs}

Oh good, Lincoln isn't very far out of my way at all. And you're right, it doesn't have to be exciting. =) I'm thinking late July/early August. Let's touch base closer to then.

I found you on FaceBook, and I've sent that e-mail-hopefully it got to you.

July/August sounds good. Fair warning, it does get extremely hot and humid here in the late summer. I did get the e-mail you sent - I have two current e-mail addresses, and either one is fine for getting ahold of me.

I'll check out your travel pics at those links you sent. Glad you got in touch. :-)

Heat and humidity doesn't bother me. After 10 years of living mostly in the Bay Area, I'm still trying to get as much real summer as I can get!

And I'm heading south from where you are, anyhow. =P

Do you have the trip planned out already? What do you want to see? Road trip through the States would be a lot of fun.
