I can haz dishwasher!!

May 17, 2009 21:46

I am incredibly impressed with http://www.qualitymatters.com/.  I picked out my birthday gift from my dad (countertop dishwasher yay!).  He ordered it on Wednesday and it arrived on freaking Friday.  That's with the basic ground delivery!  I am flabbergasted.

I spent Friday at dtiernan's, so I had just enough time after work to pull the box inside and squee for a few minutes.  On Saturday while I was getting ready for a party, D surprised me by setting the whole thing up for me.  Here I figured on it being a drawn-out process with lots of squinting and head-scratching at badly translated instructions.  And he did it while I was blowdrying my hair!

Because I was so unprepared for it to arrive quickly, I didn't even have any diswasher soap on hand.  I am totally stopping by the grocery after work tomorrow.  I can't wait to do the dishes!  I have never used that sentence in my life!

Friday night was nice.  D and I did some more work on my wine cabinet and pretty much finished up the complicated part (criss-cross-y bits that actually hold the wine bottles).  He took me to Olive Garden for dinner and I finally got to have the Lasagna Rollatini that I have been craving since I first saw the stupid commercial.  It was heavenly, let me tell you.  Worth waiting for.

Then we went back to his place and were feeling all sleepy because of the carb rush, so we skipped playing a game and went right to watching Casino Royale, which I haven't seen since emerald_knyght and lady_sapphyre first brought it over.  I've been wanting to re-watch before I see Quantum of Solace.  I proceeded to fall asleep for basically the first half of the movie and miss important bits anyway, but I woke up later on.

On Saturday, D taught me how to play Settlers of Catan, which everyone always talks up (well, by "everyone" I mean, of course, people who play European board games).  He actually dislikes the game, but it was nice of him to suffer through so I could learn and join in at the next party.  I kind of liked it, although I agree with D about the robber being an unpleasant aspect.  I much prefer concentrating on my own game over trying to mess up other people's games.

We did a little shopping on Saturday afternoon.  We're both looking for new pairs of boots, and we both wanted to look for something to wear to the party.  In gender stereotypical fashion, he found exactly what he wanted at the second store and I searched in somewhat vain for the rest of the afternoon.  He didn't even try on a second pair of boots, and he bought the first two pairs of pants he picked up.  Me?  We traversed the mall and I tried two different Paylesses, and no boots for me.  I eventually found a couple shirts at Deb that might work  (have to try them on at home and return whatever doesn't work).  I couldn't stay in that store a minute longer, because it was dreadfully hot.  I can't imagine how many sales they lost because it was unbearable in there.  As I was waiting to check out, I saw an employee move the tiny fan at the desk to point directly at her midsection and then she just stood there.  Which was irritating, because hey, if you're not going to ring me up, at least share the fan with the customers.  Grr.

After that, we headed back to Covington for Maifest.  Naturally, it started raining as soon as we opened my front door to head out.  We grabbed umbrellas and pressed on, in need of Cock & Bull french fries.  It actually worked out beautifully.  The rain drove everyone inside, and we found an outside table with no problem.  The rain passed quickly, and we were able to eat in peace, only rarely splattered with raindrops as the wind shook the table umbrellas.  I much prefer eating outside in Kentucky, since we don't have any anti-smoking laws (how archaic is my state?  really).

We wandered around a little, but it's basically the same vendors and the same booths as usual.  Still, I like the fact that we have fests here.  I like being in festive town.  We headed back and I had plenty of time to get ready for the party, which is good because my hair was absolutely not cooperating.  D was patiently waiting on my bed, and at one point I turned around to say pitifully, "I need my mommy.  She knows how to do this" ("this" = French braid).

But it all turned out and I looked fabulous and we had a fabulous time at the party.  Always a good sign when people don't want to leave at closing time :)  In fact, I got so caught up in everything that I failed to keep myself fed properly.  It wasn't until I got to the car to go home that I realized how long ago that 100-calorie granola bar was and how empty my stomach felt.  I kind of felt a little drunk with it.  Poor D tries to keep me fed at these things, but I am occasionally hopeless.  He heated up some pasta for me when we got home and I recovered.

Then this morning, we went to Big Boy for breakfast.  Hee.  I can't see a Big Boy without thinking of this commercial.  Three years ago, and I am still amused.  We went to catch the noon showing of Star Trek, and I have to say, I am impressed.  I am not a Trekker, and have never even seen a full episode (yes, you are still allowed to study/participate in fandom).  I was wondering how much of the movie would be over my head, but I was surprisingly taken in.  I had no idea Zoe Saldana would be in it, and I totally heart her.  I found the beginning of the movie fairly traumatic, but that's my strong empathy tendancies.  I just cried over the season finale of Lost, too.

Yes, that is how I've spent my day after letting D go and get his homework done.  My neck has been increasingly sore over the past few weeks, and today the pain is just blossoming (I asked D to rub it at one point, and he just said "Jesus" when he felt how tight everything is).  It's better if I lie or sit still, but as soon as I turn to grab something or god forbid, get off the couch, I actually whimper in pain a bit.  Calling chiropracter first thing tomorrow, you better believe.  I tried Bio-Freeze but didn't really help much.  That stuff feels so odd, and I do not understand how it's supposed to work.

It disturbs me that the ice cream truck is still driving through my neighborhood at 9:30pm.  If your kids are out at 9:30pm ... well ... don't let them out at 9:30pm, okay?  It's not good.  Just in general.

So yeah, just caught up on Lost.  Wow.  I find Juliet to be the most fascinating and under-used character.  Although, maybe she wouldn't be as fascinating if we knew more about her.  Hmm.  Still, I think the actress does a great job of portraying her calm and the way she hides her strong emotions.  I find my eyes drawn to her in a scene.  Also,  Bernard!  Rose and Bernard!  Rose and Bernard all happy and relaxed and together!  I was so extremely pleased to see them get a happy ending.  And their attitudes toward the main characters were just priceless - "Aw, hell no.  Son of a bitch."  I just kept thinking throughout the ep that guns never did anyone on that island any good.  It's like on Buffy.

Sawyer trying to hold on to Juliet was absolutely heartbreaking.  I kind of wish his face hadn't been so red, because I found it distracting in scene.  In fact, they've really been pouring on the fake blood lately, and I'm not a fan.  Quit getting hit in the head, Jack.  Who do you think you are, Giles?

Sawyer/Juliet breaks my heart because you know from the beginning that it's doomed.  It's normal and happy, and our people are never normal and happy.  Poor Juliet called it from the start, and watched as Sawyer slipped through her fingers, bit by bit, for an entire season.  It's really fitting that she did the same to him in an instant at the end.  I found myself siding with her and looking at Kate with resentment and hopelessness.

Wow, I'm feeling a little fic-cy over Juliet.  Lost hasn't inspired that in me since ... well, let us not speak of it.

I thought the 2007 storyline was utterly boring and drawn-out.  I was annoyed every time we flashed forward from 1977 and went back to it.  Here, I'll summarize every scene for you:

Locke(?): I am strangely confident.  Do what I tell you to.
Ben: I am downtrodden and jealous.
Sun: Have you seen my husband?
Hot Latina: I know something you don't know.
Frank: What's going on?

Boom.  Done.  Go back to the interesting characters.

I feel like we didn't get enough of Jacob to last us through the hiatus.  He's a little too mysterious, and the big "2010" on the screen at the end was not heartening.  I know intellectually I have to wait until next year - do you have to rub it in my face?
