You know what bugs me? When shows are re-cut for syndication so that the episode itself begins directly after the credits when it was not originally created that way (let's not get into butchering the content itself). I am all for starting early, but this means that all the other commercial breaks are out of place. TV writers write that way for a reason. There are specific Acts that are completely tossed when you move all the commercials around.
Two problems arise. 1) The plot moves so that I come to expect a commercial break, and yet I get no break and the transition is quite unnatural. 2) Commercial breaks come at inopportune times and - far more importantly - because they are extra loud, they tend to wake up Sleeping!Baby. Bad, bad idea, Syndication Editing People. (speaking of "extra loud", that stupid L&O DUNH-DUNH is impossible to predict)
I have spent years honing an instinct for commercial breaks, both when they begin and when they end. We all have our little talents. I am especially sensitive to the end of breaks on USA Network, having practiced on LFN for so many years. Anyway. You mess with my instincts, Syndication Editing People. On normally edited shows, I can feel the break coming and I can get the remote in my hand and the volume turned down so that your crass and overly-loud advertisements do not wake Sleeping!Baby. This is troubling. That is all.

[Okay, I know I said "let's not get into the butchering of the content itself", but I just HAVE to say that it drives me up the wall to know that FX edits out the millisecond of post-coital cuddling between Faith and Xander in "The Zeppo." Would it kill them? It takes almost no time at all, and it's vital to the character development. God.]
[Also, I can still, years after watching the daily reruns, immediately notice the "unaired" segments of Friends episodes when I watch them on DVD. Seriously, the random jokes that have been inserted back in immediately make my ears prick up, even from another room!]
