gamemusic geek rant.

so I'm listening to the SaGa Frontier OST, and I decided to look up SaGa Frontier out of curiosity. I found a review of the game, and this is what the reviewer said about the music:

The music is probably the only really good thing to this game ( Read more... )

Uhm, I find it humerous that someone with a name like "Squarewhore" trying to give an opinion and trying not to sound unbias(when obviously he/she is ( ... )

Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III were all SaGa games that were frickin' awesome. They also had the best music on the classic Game Boy.

squarewhore is here because she is my friend, and I saw nikari posting about SaGa Frontier, which I recalled her telling me about years and years ago, and I asked her as a favor to me to come and give him a review, since he said that the only one he'd been able to find was a bad one and since I know she's played a lot of games so she's got more than FF VII to go on.

She uses that username because Square Enix gets a lot of her money (hence she's Square's whore, duh), not because she necessarily prefers them or thinks they are better than others. Don't be rude.

hehe hi :)

Thanks for trying to help me out! I was really making more of an observation than asking for help, though. Everyone has their own opinions about what songs are good and what songs aren't. I think everybody should be entitled to that.

There are a lot more games out there than Final Fantasy, is all. The reviewer held a very unreasonable bias against the game they were trying to review, while saying Final Fantasy was better, instead of giving any details to what kind of music the game had. Your friend, good intentioned tho she may be, holds a very similar bias towards Final Fantasy. (Mind you, her minireview of saga frontier was still better than the one I had read.)

Sorry about all the headbutting. I really didn't intend anything malicious by the post. Hell knows no fury like the wrath of a gamer's opinion.

Meh, I was just trying to be helpful, because you are my puddin, and I love all my little puddins online. I didn't mean to start a kerfluffle. I'll be good.

Well actually, to use that name does show that there IS a bias. Square gets a lot of her money? I'm sure many other companies get a lot of her money as well. Why not use "Konami_whore" or "Gust_Whore" or "IdeaFactory_Whore"?

Because there is a bias towards Square, it's a rather simple deduction.

Uh, because Square probably gets more of her money than those other companies? There's a difference between buying Square games because they seem more interesting to you than games being produced by other companies or because Square produces more of a certain type of game that happens to be the type you like and buying Square games because they're made by Square. That's like saying someone who prefers to play football games has a bias towards EA Sports, because they own a lot of EA Sports games. Uh, no, they like football games. If another company makes a good football game, they're probably going to buy it from them, too.

The name is probably a joke that came up in coversation with her friends or something. It doesn't have to have some deep significant meaning.

It doesn't have to have some deep significant meaning, but it does show a mentallity within the person, as well, it also shows a limiting factor ( ... )

No, I'm acting like she's my friend. nikari wanted a review of SaGa Frontier, which I knew she was familiar with, so I asked her to come over and give her opinion. Because frankly, I could give less than a shit about video games, and in those absolutely rare moments that I have a question about them, I ask her. She's played more than anyone I know and has at least a passing familiarity with a lot of popular titles -- if she hasn't played them, she knows someone who has.

You know what? You're biased. You're going to develop a negative opinion of someone you don't even know because of their username. You have an opinion that Square sucks. She has an opinion, apparently, that they don't. Neither is incorrect because they are opinions.

This conversation is over. Come off your pedistal sometime and pull that bug out of your ass, and then maybe we'll talk.

Actually, it's based on what she said in addition to her user name. Doesn't that mean it's completely not biased?
