erm, an update... (for lack of a better subject line!)

Apr 04, 2006 22:09

Well, my bag finally turned up today. Somewhat helpfully: after all, half the stuff I carried in it was intended to be left at home (winter jumpers, and such) - though it does mean that my family will get all the stropwafels supposed to have been for the people in Ox (sorry, necaris and kiki_kuroineko; will try to do better next time!!!). Blame EasyJet; I certainly do!

But, it turns out that the main point of my having BROUGHT this huge suitcase over (let alone deciding to subject myself to an overnight coach trip on Eurolines in order to get back before my Honours Class) - namely, the purchasing of a new desktop computer - isn't going to happen. At all. As in, my parents/grandparents/etc. have completely ganged up on me and tried to persuade me how silly the whole idea would be; and though they say 'of course, you're completely free to make your mind up... [5 second pause]... but don't you think, really, you'll have other things to worry about besides playing computer games?... [etc]"

In any event, the desired trip into PC World earlier brought about nothing but disappointment, and I've been fairly downbeat since then; not that I haven't been generally over the last few days (believe me, you don't wanna know!), but that was just basically pretty horrible. It means I'm gonna be stuck with the crappy 20 MB of harddrive space for the foreseeable future - and, of course, be totally unable to play any game released since 1800. [well, probably 2003, actually, but that's bad enough!]

On the flipside, managed to spend some 'quality' time with my family; which hasn't been too bad, when they've not been pestering me in two different languages, and asking for translations. Actually, my granndad and stepfather (who's back in England at the same time as I, miraculously enough!) seem to communicate pretty well, especially when it comes to things like car engines etc. Just as well, perhaps! Though I did get to see my stepdad's mum too, who came over to visit us today. Which was really nice - always enjoy spending time with her; shame that can't always be said about the rest of my family!

It is not impossible that we'll be going to the Scilly Isles tomorrow; that's a 2 1/2 trip by boat each way, to those cheap enough to GO by boat (as cf. plane/helicopter) - such as my family. Though when there's five people and it's four times as expensive to fly, perhaps it's kinda understandable! So yeah, 5 hours on a boat... joys... Really ought to print out that Hons. class reading, I think!

That's about as exciting as my life gets, right now. Will keep you posted as/when more happens; may put photos up on Facebook/my webspace should said visit to Scillies actually materialise.

Thanks for reading - till the next time!
