SMAP x SMAP Translation Snippet

Aug 30, 2016 15:39

Thesis #2 has started and I need all the motivation I can to get to keep going. I've been having such a hard time sleeping for the past 4 months that my productivity has just been going down. My Mom told me that my Dad had bouts of insomnia but then it got better...it's been four months and for the past week, I totaled 10 hours. I'm just easily irritable now. :|

Anyway, it's been so long since I've been updated with Arashi and anything in the Japanese entertainment. I've heard Anne Watanabe and Higashide Masahiro have already welcomed their twin girls (twins!! <3) and that's all I know. As far as Arashi is concerned I'm quite off the loop? Has Waku-Waku Gakkou happened? Any funny moments in recent episodes? Pfft. Who am I writing to here? XD

Anyway, as my way of just enjoying the SMAP that was, I looked for an SMAPxSMAP episode (May 2016) I'd like and decided to do a translation snippet for the episode with Ichikawa Ebizo and his son Kangen. His son looks so much like his wife, Kobayashi Mao. I found the episode adorable because it was a bunch of grown guys laughing to the answers of a 3 year old boy.
I just decided to post a snippet of the tasting and judging time:

Note: The images are from Youtube Stills these are not HQ AT ALL.

Kimura-Kusanagi: A cute kid's menu: Chicken chahan (fried rice) curry. On a sweet curry with potato chip topping. And a jelly and milk birthday cake.

They heard from Kagen's mom that he liked Chahan and fried chicken. So they decided to make a child-friendly curry with chahan and fried chicken on top.

He took a piece of the chicken but he burned his tongue. Oops! Looks like it was a little too hot for the tot. Better blow on the food before he eats it! :)

His reaction was an "oishii" but I didn't take a screen cap of it anymore since for some reason, he didn't look as happy. Enter the jelly birthday cake and looks like Kimura-Kusanagi pair hit jackpot by using an interactive plate where Kangen could switch the colors that light up.

He seems to have liked it so much that after Kimura-san offered for him to take it home, his Dad formally requested for it to be taken home. Ahh. There goes the breeding of Ebizo Ichikawa (note: he is the holder of one of the most prestigious titles in the kabuki world).

[Katori-san's Dress-Up!]Before we go to the Katori-Inagaki pair, looks like Katori-san dressed up as Kangen's dad during his first appearance at SMAPxSMAP.

I wonder how the kid felt with a guy dressed up as his dad? Anyway...

Inagaki-Katori: A special Kabuki-themed sushi with a thin layer of milk jelly for the mask. The sushi is made of chuutoro (medium fatty tuna), vinegared sushi rice and shrimp. The hair detailing is made with thinly shaved pickled raddish paired with a wakame and aosa miso soup. The cake is a strawberry and red bean filled cake that used rice flour with whipped cream and sliced fruits.

Kangen, by now, I'm convinced isn't a child who's easily excited. He's quite well-behaved! Hmm. Looks like this kid is harder to read than most.

Katori-san explains that they based their idea on the concept of the kyara-ben (character bento) but made it more special for the birthday boy. OOoh! <3

When his Dad asks him where he wants to start, the kids points to the hair area of the sushi.

Wait...not the sushi face?

His dad burst into a fit of laughter after realizing his kid was more into the soup and the pickled raddish than that plate of sushi made with expensive tuna.

Katori-san even commented with "shibui." Inagaki-san looks at the kid with what seems to be a mixture of disbelief and well, "damn that kid is cute".

Next was to try the miso soup with wakame and aosa that Kangen likes. He takes a spoonful and goes "Oishii!"

Katori-san just remarked: Simple...

His dad asked if he wanted more and well...Kangen asked for more:

Yup. He asked for more pickled raddish! Haha!

The amused dad could only say: "Well, he seems to really like pickled food."

So...if you were Kangen, whose meal would you pick?

[Honestly, between the two, I'd go for the Inagaki-Katori pair. Everything is just in sync with their guest's background. In fact, even the cake!]
