Disjointed election thoughts that don't reduce well into Facebook status updates:
- It's hard to have any sort of passionate reaction to a third minority government in a row. If it weren't for the obvious implications (environmental destruction, rights rollback, nation-wide epidemic of evil) I'd almost rather have a Harper majority, just to get the spark back into federal politics.
- It would be great if commentators stopped pretending a minority government is a mandate, as if Canadians collectively said "We'd like Stephen Harper to be a weak Prime Minister for another few years." A minority government means Canadians agree on one thing: we don't really like any of you all that much.
- I feel bad for Stephane Dion. His biggest problem is that he really believed in something (the Green Shift) and fought for it against the odds, because he thought it was good for the country. And he's probably going down for it. Next time around they'll replace him with some other white dude who's electable because no one really know what he stands for.
- I am amused by the low voter turnout, but not upset. If you can't be bothered to vote, then I don't want you to have any influence. Thanks for opting out.
- 2008 may be the year that Canadian federal politics jumped the shark. We're heading into Season 40 with the lowest ratings since 1898. Introducing the crazy blonde chick at the last minute didn't help, and now they're talking about cast changes just as we're getting used to the new characters. No wonder people prefer the American cast.
- Does anyone else think that Wendy Mesley and Peter Mansbridge need to get back together? Hello sexual tension! They could be the Canadian Brangelina. (Dibs on the nickname Weter Mansley.)
