Damned if I do, damned if I don't...

Sometimes, I regret ever having the idea to create the Cell. Sometimes, it's more trouble than it's worth and at times it's been way more of an emotional drain than it really needs to be, although perhaps that's only because, at those times, I allowed it to be an emotional drain. But you know, I've found that it does get easier to handle over time ( Read more... )

the perils of owning a message board, general whining

It's somewhat analagous to parenting. You have to be the authority figure, and while you can do that in a benevolent way, you can't be everyones' friend at the same time.

And really, the people at the board need to remember that even if they contribute funds to the boards' upkeep, it's still your community, you own it, and therefore have the right to set whatever rules you wish, as it's not meant to be a democracy. It is one of the fairest moderated boards on the net as well, so we can't honestly complain. Still it must give you the feeling of herding cats and all that.

Pumpkin pie! Darn, I knew I forgot to buy something to go with the psuedo-turkey and veggies. Oh well, Kroger'll have 'em on super sale tomorrow. :D Happy Thanksgiving.

You know, you're right, Dino; it is like parenting. Maybe I should keep that in mind... ;)

And, you know it's not so much that I feel a need to tell everyone what they can and can't do -- Even though I do realize that I'm fully within my rights to do so -- so much as it is just wanting to avoid a high school clique "Think like us or die" atmosphere on the board. I suppose that's why I tend to come down hardest on people who do seem to promote that attitude, consciously or not. I was a "victim" of that attitude in school, so I guess that I want to avoid it on a board that I own and administrate. And really, I suppose it all comes down to me not understanding why people can't leave well enough alone and realize that their own visions and interpretations of a silly fictional cartoon/comic aren't the be-all and end-all of the universe. But anyway, I shall continue to fight the good fight, if only because I'm in a position where I have to do so.

Either that or I'll just say "Screw it all" and become a full-time Knight Rider fangirl... ;)

Bwha! You know, that's not a half bad idea. :D

I'll just say that if you want to become a full-time Kr grrrl, then join the_kittchen and stay away from the message boards... the KR message boards are scary places...

I'll bear that in mind, 'Blaze. :) It's already on my list of places to check out, after all. :)

Hmmmm...If I become a full-time Kitt fangirl, I'll have to change my name to Knightwind, though... ;)

Please don't go. You're the reason I'm such a gung-ho PJ girl.

Please?

Oh, I'm not going anywhere, Whirl. Really. I was just being facetious. Although I do admit that KR is...fascinating. ;) And I'll further admit that there are times when I'd like to just chuck everything having to do with the Cell, yes. But on the other hand, I'm kinda committed to having the Cell around as long as people want it to be around. At worst, I'll take a powder from the place and ignore it for a week or so. So worry not. :)

But hey, if it weren't for petty Cell arguments eating up my time, then perhaps I'd actually have time to write more PJ stuff... ;) So maybe you should be wishing for me to leave. ;)

Well then, how about taking that powder down-time write PJ and finish "Redemption". When you come back I'll be waiting, and so will the rest of us in the S.F.. ;)

So in other words, you've been hurt, so now you want to built a place where people don't hurt each other. Fair enough. I can understand that (esp. since I've been hassled/bullied at school, too, FWIW). But you know, if you come down too hard on people in the name of keeping them from being snippish to newbies, it kinda defeats the purpose. Because it's not just the newbies that deserve to be treated nicely, the regulars are people with feelings, too. (saying that as someone who's still a Cell newbie herself)

Yes, we should all be kind and welcoming, ideally. But one harsh/snarky/snippish comment doth not an evil elitist bitch make. We all say something harsh sometimes, it's human. And then the next day or ( ... )

I don't hate you, Nightwind, I don't think you hate me, and I won't be leaving the Cell any time soon. :)
