Damned if I do, damned if I don't...

Sometimes, I regret ever having the idea to create the Cell. Sometimes, it's more trouble than it's worth and at times it's been way more of an emotional drain than it really needs to be, although perhaps that's only because, at those times, I allowed it to be an emotional drain. But you know, I've found that it does get easier to handle over time ( Read more... )

Somehow I suspect that only someone who owns a board would really understand what kind of a position it puts you in. It's really, really hard sometimes. But, like you said, there's just no way around it and, yes, it's sad.

But I'm thankful that at least one other person out there in Internet Land understands. Thank you. :) *hugs back* Happy Turkey Day to you. :)Don't eat too much. :)

It's somewhat analagous to parenting. You have to be the authority figure, and while you can do that in a benevolent way, you can't be everyones' friend at the same time.

And really, the people at the board need to remember that even if they contribute funds to the boards' upkeep, it's still your community, you own it, and therefore have the right to set whatever rules you wish, as it's not meant to be a democracy. It is one of the fairest moderated boards on the net as well, so we can't honestly complain. Still it must give you the feeling of herding cats and all that.

Pumpkin pie! Darn, I knew I forgot to buy something to go with the psuedo-turkey and veggies. Oh well, Kroger'll have 'em on super sale tomorrow. :D Happy Thanksgiving.

You know, you're right, Dino; it is like parenting. Maybe I should keep that in mind... ;)

And, you know it's not so much that I feel a need to tell everyone what they can and can't do -- Even though I do realize that I'm fully within my rights to do so -- so much as it is just wanting to avoid a high school clique "Think like us or die" atmosphere on the board. I suppose that's why I tend to come down hardest on people who do seem to promote that attitude, consciously or not. I was a "victim" of that attitude in school, so I guess that I want to avoid it on a board that I own and administrate. And really, I suppose it all comes down to me not understanding why people can't leave well enough alone and realize that their own visions and interpretations of a silly fictional cartoon/comic aren't the be-all and end-all of the universe. But anyway, I shall continue to fight the good fight, if only because I'm in a position where I have to do so.

Either that or I'll just say "Screw it all" and become a full-time Knight Rider fangirl... ;)

Bwha! You know, that's not a half bad idea. :D

I'll just say that if you want to become a full-time Kr grrrl, then join the_kittchen and stay away from the message boards... the KR message boards are scary places...

to quote something I was tought long ago:

'An it harm none, do as ye will. An it harm some, do as ye must.'

*hugs* Forum moderating is a hard job, but you run the fairest forum i've ever seen. For the most part (as far as I can tell, anyway), the Cell is a happy community that has a good respect for the mods and for you. You're doing a superb job, and I for one am very, very happy to have found the Cell and met up with the people on it ;)

Thank you, 'Blaze. :) *hugs*

And, on a totally different subject, I'm wondering if you can point me in the general direction of Gryph's fic that crosses TFs and Knight Rider. Alirion, I think, had mentioned somewhere that she'd written one. Since Frosty and I are futzing around with a "fic" (Really, it's more like a series of disconnected vignettes with no discernable plot. :)) that does that very same thing, we're curious as to what she did. Yet, I can't seem to find the fic anywhere. I looked on her KR site and on Fanfic.net and I'm not finding anything. Perchance do you know its title or, perchance, do you have a linky-poo or something?

And thank your for your suggestions of KR fic. Rest assured that I will look into all of them. It's just that, with working two jobs, I haven't had a whole lot of time for reading. :( But I'm looking forward to reading your Kitt angst, dearest. ;)

It's available on ffnet under Gryph's username--I can't remember the damn title, or I'd give it to you, but it's one of the zillion Arc fics. The concept is that Gryph's BMW Daemon gets thrown into the alternative Arc TF universe, and I seem to remember it being interesting if not earthshakingly brilliant.

One of the reasons I bailed on the Cell was to get away from the irritating cliques of like-thinking back-patting Deceptochums who applaud and endorse work and ideas/ opinions produced within their inner circles, yet turn up their nose at anything that either a) threatens the comfortable security of the familiar community think-tank Transformers concepts they've wrapped a good portion of their online TF-saturated lives around until the whole thing has damn near well congealed into an insoluble mass of tacky Fanon, or b) seems remotely fangirly in a way that isn't excusable by dint of friendship. And boy oh boy, show the slightest criticism of any of them or their work or opinions and BAM, that charming veteran who was just giggling and cooing over one of the clique’s inside jokes has undergone a startling metamorphosis and suddenly you, the malignant outsider, find yourself with a hissing, sneering catpack spitting down your neck, while behind your back the whole lot of them have retreated to their private Livejournals to lick their ( ... )

It's true, yes, that some people take their fandom way too seriously. It's that way in every fandom that I've been a part of. (All two of them. ;) ) I mean, at a Star Trek convention that I was at, an actual brawl broke out over Star Trek: The Next Generation's existence. There were those who felt that it was an affront to the original series and those folks had it out with those who dismissed the original series as mere camp. How stupid is that? And then there's the whole phenomenon of people killing each other over stupid football games and what-have-you. By comparison, TF fandom is downright tame when it comes to that stuff ( ... )

Therein lies the problem though- while standing up for your beliefs and principles sounds very noble and valiant on paper, in the end it usually just pisses off even more people and drags the issue into a down and out catfight over who is standing on the studier moral highground, causing even more trouble for the beleaguered admins and board owners. And while I'd just love to make myself a visible target by standing up with light glinting magnificently off my teeth to berate scores of nebulous and hazily defined twits and clique humpers, chances are a) other innocent people are going to get caught in the crossfire and lash back out of a sense of wounded self-defence, extending the borders of the hairy brew-ha-ha, and b) ulcers are going to erupt on the walls of my stomach for no better reason than I just had to go out of my way to lecture people over what essentially distils down into an argument about PRETEND GIANT ROBOTS ( ... )

Hey, I'm not trying to convince you to fight the good fight. I wouldn't wish that on anyone, actually. Really, if you want to brush it all off and focus your attention on Far More Important Matters, then that's exactly what you should do. I wonder, though, exactly how much you really have brushed it off. Because if you really had done so, if none of this really mattered to you and if it was all completely beneath your attention, then you wouldn't, for instance, take the time to make rather lengthy comments in my journal about the subject. So don't tell me that you've decided it doesn't matter to you and that it's all irrelevant because after all it's all just "PRETEND GIANT ROBOTS", because obviously it does matter to you at least to some extent ( ... )

*hugs*

I have been too out of it this week to know what's going on this time. But I definitely know the behavior trends. After two and a half years on the Cell, I still think you're doing a perfectly fine job. I'm sorry if it isn't as rewarding as it ought to be for the work you put in.

Hang in there.

Thanks, kidu. :) That means a lot. Although I'm sure I'm not doing a perfectly fine job, I'm muddling through as best I can, I suppose. :)
