As a native Austinite, I have a few suggestions for ya:
*Apply to ACC, UT, and St. Eds (I hear good things about them too). You would be surprised about how lax some of the standards at UT are.
*Austin has lots of jobs that cater to students and folks with no experience. Temporary services abound for major companies like AT&T, Samsung, Apple, etc, and they often have schedules that are evening that work well for many people. All you have to do is be able to talk/type. Contact Volt Staffing Services, Staffmark, and Adecco for stuff like that. Many jobs in the service industry as well.
*Food expenses, particularly due to gas prices, are going up. Milk is costing more and more, for example, and last year even the price of HEB's cheapy bread went up a dime for a while.
*I don't have experience with Co-ops, but many apartments around town cover water, and some offer free electric as well. Which is nice when dealing with most summers and some winters. 2007 not withstanding.
I realize you don't know me at all; I was just thumbing through the friend's list via Ikkicon and thought that I might offer some suggestions. I hope this stuff is useful and will let you enjoy more time with your BF and less time concerned over the small stuff.
