He liked coming to the kendo club room at times like this when it was quiet and no one was around. It gave Ulquiorra a chance to practice. Or at least to escape all the inane babbling of the other students. Elena should see him there even if he didn't acknowledge her right away. He was focused on his exercises. She could wait.

At length he did turn to her with the practice sword still in hand. "It's just you." The junior student murmured disdainfully. The way he said it and the way he looked at her now. It was almost like he knew her. But have they ever really spoken before? "What're you doing here? You're interrupting."

"It seems to me like you're interrupting -her-," Byakuya said, stepping in not long after Ulquiorra; he kept an eye on the kendo room, as it was his responsibility to make sure students didn't harm themselves when they were sparring.

Too many here were reckless, heedless of the dangers - they thought because they fought with wooden swords, that they couldn't come to harm.

"This room is for everyone to share. If you disagree with that, Mr. Ulquiorra, then you are welcome to leave."

Elena did spot him, and grew quiet afterwards. He had to have heard her. ...So he must be ignoring her. The freshman girl frowned at the thought and crossed her arms over her chest. Fine. She'd wait all day if she had to! The attitude dropped a little when he finally did address her though. He was an upperclassman, after all.

She did wonder at how he acted like he knew her. Elena couldn't really remember ever speaking to him before, but that didn't mean that she hasn't. But she does know that she's seen him speak to other students...and it's never nice.

"I've come to join the kendo club." She answered with a blink. "Or at least see if it's for me." Elena wondered at how helpful he was going to be though. She turned her head towards the third voice, and was suddenly a little more optimistic in that area. "Sir." Elena couldn't help smirking a little at what he told Ulquiorra. If she weren't afraid of the teacher catching her, she probably would've stuck her tongue out at him.

Byakuya nodded. "Why do you wish to join? Have you any prior training?" He beckoned her over to sit down to one side; in causal clothes, rather than the suit and tie he wore for teaching, he seemed more approachable.

"Allow him to carry on as he pleases." He waved a hand in Ulquiorra's direction.

Ulquiorra wanted to tell her that they actually did know one another in a roundabout way. He'd seen her in the Dream. Actually he'd cut her apart in the dream. Stabbed her through the neck and broke the beads. A waste of time since she didn't have the key inside her. Not that time but maybe she would the next.

Green eyes turned towards Byakuya when he overheard and entered. "I was under the impression that this room was for kendo club members only. Sensei." The way he seperated the last word from the others just went to show that he regretted having to use a polite term for him. But kendo has rules and traditions that even Ulquiorra couldn't deny.

He wanted to laugh at what Elena proposed but all he could manage was a disgusted snort. He didn't waste his time with saying anything but the look he gave her said it all. She should return to her dorm before she got hurt. But instead Ulquiorra returned to his practice exercises. Still listening though.

Elena blinked, a slight frown coming to her lips at Byakuya's question. It only deepened at the second one. She answered it first while sitting down. "None. And I just wanted to do something a little more...physical I guess." Everything she's involved in is academic. Elena was ready to spread her wings a little.

Her eyes darted to Ulquiorra when he snorted, and the look that she gave him made it painfully clear that there was no love lost between them. She was lucky that a teacher was there, or he would've undoubtedly run her out of the room by now. Elena glanced back at Byakuya and her expression softened. "You look really different." Noting his casual clothes. "You look nice though."

"Why kendo?" Byakuya continued. "Why not the track or swim teams? What is it about this sport itself that draws you more than the others."

"If she wishes to join, then she is welcome." He said, turning to look over his shoulder at Ulquiorra. "Do not start playing the elitist with me, Mr. Schiffer. You were not always as apt with a sword as you are now. Kindly recall that."

Turning back to Elena - he was surprised to hear a compliment from her. It was a little uncomfortable - the gap between their ages was enough for him to view her as a child, but not enough to keep those kinds of sentiments from getting to him, even a bit. "Thank you." Byakuya replied simply.
