Can you ask Dr. Schaffner is there a reason why some people don't get the flu, even when they don't get the flu shot?

My inquiry is based on something I had learned regarding the black death, which factors into HIV now. The genetic mutation Delta 36 was formed during the Black Death. People that had a single copy of it still got the plague, but they survived it. People with the double copy of the mutation never got it at all.

That same genetic mutation is helping people today hundreds of years later with HIV. If you have the single copy of Delta 36, you can still get HIV but you have trouble getting it (and I'm actually begining to wonder if you can still live a long life despite having HIV if you have this single copy because my step-grandmother's nephew has it, but has had it since the early 90s). If you have the double copy of D36, it seems the person can't get HIV at all.

With all that said...does this doctor think there is some genetic mutation or gene that helps prevent some people from getting the flu? Reason why I asked this is because I have never had the flu and I have never been vaccinated against it.

So you're thinking there's a genetic factor that allows some people to ward off the flu? I've heard about that Black Death theory, but never with the flu. That's a good question! I'll try to ask about it! :)
