CA California @ Dempsey Hill

Aching for lunch on Christmas day is not a pretty picture, especially when you're stuck in a car with a hungry Other Sibling. What did she expect walking out of the house without breakfast, right? (^_-)-☆

Eager to try some other selections from Jones the Grocer, we headed back to Dempsey Hill, only to discover that Jones the Grocer was one of the many establishments where Christmas is still a sacred holiday.

So instead, we went into CA California, which is right next to Ben & Jerry's.

The interior is furnished in worn woods in an almost country ranch style. And in front of their open-kitchen sandwich board station, 3 curved bar booths that comfortably seat 4 patrons have curtain drapes for a more intimate experience. On the other side of the kitchen, we spied a bedroom loft with a four poster bed and wondered if it was open to patrons wanting to sleep off a food coma.

We were a little overwhelmed by the handwritten blackboard sandwich menu over the kitchen. CA California is obviously very proud of their artisan breads, handmade loaves from which they make their assortment of sandwiches.

The look on the SO's face at his turkey and mango sandwich was giggle-worthy.
Far more familiar with slices of turkey, rather than shredded meat,
he quipped the mango flavour tasted strange.

The olio contains fresh sliced chillis, but they lack the bite I had hoped they would have.
The portion also isn't as large as this photo makes it out to be,
but it does fill you up quite comfortably.

While we didn't order any pizzas, they were certainly popular.
The dough is obviously fresh and unable to hold up its own weight,
much like the pizza doughs I make at home.
