Amimoto @ Surfer's Paradise

Dec 18, 2010 21:16

We try to avoid Surfer's Paradise down the Gold Coast as much as possible, due to the tackiness of the area over the years, the sheer number of tourists flocking the beaches and the congestion from all the construction the strip is undergoing at the moment.

However, the SO wanted to visit the Apple store in Robina and a colleague had highly recommended Amimoto, so I thought we should check it out.

Arriving 15 mins before 3pm, we found the eatery quiet with only 2 other patrons. Greeted by one of their three wait staff, we were directed to well-worn wood chairs. Amimoto's decor is traditional and possibly seen better days, but the food more than made up for the lack of an ambience.

I opted for the chirashi sushi (AUD$16) and it comes with urchin roe, salmon roe, prawn roe, scallop, octopus, squid, tuna, salmon, prawn, etc. and a very sweet shiitake mushroom. Every slice of fish is really fresh and I enjoyed every bite, washed down with authentic miso soup.

The SO had the katsu don (AUD$7.50) and it was really yummy and served piping hot, perfect for the chilly wet weather we had over the weekend.

Bottom line: Amimoto is definitely on our oh-yeah! list.
