w00t!: first two sewing projects done!

Jun 19, 2011 22:08

thanks to David's mom who taught me the basics and who lent me her sewing machine, i been able to finish my first two sewing projects in under 2 days! :DDD

this isn't my very first time sewing, but it's my first time actually being taught/learning how to sew. while in Japan i dabbled in sewing for little while and made two small stuff animals just from following the included instructions + the occasional YouTube reference. after that i designed and made a doll from scratch and i had designed and started making a second doll when i stopped sewing all together. SEWING BY HAND IS A BITCH. but now that i have the use of a sewing machine i've revisited the second pattern that i designed in Japan and this time i've finished it!

AMERICANA KITTY

americana kitty is made out of two cheap cotten fabrics, plushie stuffing and small jet crystal beads (to add weight + a beanie feel). the eyes were completely random as i didn't think out that part of the pattern at all... i was already stuffing the head when i went "oh, this needs eyes huh?" needless to say i didn't have anything nice on hand to use as eyes, just a bag of random crappy buttons. also, i hadn't really thought through how to attach the head....... i think i managed alright, but there has to be a more elegant way of attaching a head like this. as it is, the head can be tilted forward or laid back flat-- AWESOME! just not nicely sewn. all in all, i think this patterned turned out really nice. :)

FLEECE CAT COAT

this coat is modeled after the fleece coat that i bought for Fae. David's mom, who is the awesome, drew up a patten for the coat and even made some modifications to it per my request. :) she also made another coat for Fae.

this coat is really simple to make and is even reversible! in the future i might make it with two different pieces of fabric so it can be two coats in one. as it's fleece, it's super warm and the cats seem to love it. even Iggy who's completely new to wearing clothes is partial to it. :) speaking of which, check out life with Fae tomorrow to see Iggy model his new coat. :)

next i'm going to make Fae a (hopefully) snazzy leopard-print fleece coat and i've already designed a new pattern for a cat plushie. 8)
