it's been almost a month since i last updated lj or even checked my friends list. sorry if i missed something important. :/ so much has been going on here that i don't even know where to start with this entry. my blog "life with Fae" and knitting have been sucking up all my time/attention...
less than a month ago it flooded in Brisbane and all around Queensland. while Brisbane was declared a disaster zone due to the Brisbane River overflowing and thousands of homes and businesses being flooded, where we live it was as if none of that was happening. in fact, over the couple of days that the flooding occurred the sun finally came out for once. there were blue skies and singing birds for the first time in a while... it was completely surreal, everything seeming normal while close by thousands of people were losing everything. for those who weren't affected by the flooding, things quickly got back to normal for the most part. several weeks later, those who were flooded are still battling it out with insurance companies over their coverage... it's sad. all the while the media is happily eating all of this up, of course.
meanwhile, i've tried to learn to knit again. so far i've got the garter stitch down pat but still need to work on my stocking stitch. i know how to decrease, but not how to increase. atm i'm working on my first project: a scarf done completely in garter stitch. it's taking me longer than i'd hoped to finish... ;( right now it's about 29in long but my goal is to make it 75in long. got a long way to go yet. :/ i've already got a much cooler second project lined up so i really hope to finish this scarf soon! >_< eventually i want to make all kinds of things, including sweaters for Fae. ;)
aside from weather stuff and knitting, i guess not a lot has been going on. work is work and my volunteer job at the RSPCA hasn't been the same since the flood. the shelter was almost completely under water for days and while all the animals were evacuated in time the majority of the 300+ animals still can't return to the shelter. instead of photography and video i've been helping with the huge task of cleaning up.
ah, there is one more thing that i should mention before i forget! me and David are thinking about going to Japan for 3ish weeks at the end of July. in order to change from a Work and Holiday Visa to a Partner Visa i have to leave the country for a little while and next to New Zealand Japan seems like the best place to go. :) oh, and i got my pension refund from Japan so now i have some money!!! IT IS SO GREAT NOT BEING POOR ANYMORE!!!!!!! omg... so yeah. i'm looking forward to going back to Japan. :)
k, entry ends here because Fae is demanding her dinner. oh, btw i've uploaded a couple of videos of Fae to Youtube. check out [
this one ] about her adventures on our balcony wearing a harness! :3
