Queensland flooding
k, so i'm kinda tired of retyping this by now because i've already blogged about this like 5 times at other blogs, so i'm going to keep this short.
it's been raining and raining and raining almost every day for over a month here in Queensland. actually, the rain goes back farther than that but it's the last month that's been almost every day around Brisbane. anyway, after a month of record amounts of rain towns around Queensland have been flooding. over the the past 24+ hours the flooding has gotten even worse.
to summarize events from yesterday:
now the water that hit Toowoomba other towns along with a lot of other water is headed for Brisbane. the Brisbane River has already started overflowing its banks and is expected to flood through to thursday in what will supposedly be the biggest Queensland flood in 30+ years. people have already started evacuating the areas around the river as approx 6,500 homes and thousands of business are expected to be flooded.
thankfully i don't live close to the river so i'm fine, but still the whole thing is bizarre. i've never been anywhere close to a flood of this scale before. :/ the month+ of rainrainrain was bad enough before all the flooding! and i do feel for all the people who have lost their homes and/or loved ones. :/ and think of all the poor animals! ;( i already know of 2 RSPCA shelters that have closed due to flooding and the shelter that i volunteer at is among the places near the river that is going to flood.... add to that all the animals that have already been swept away by flood waters and all of the animals being left behind because they're not allowed at the evacuation shelters.... ;(
