just got home from the group interview.... it didn't go horribly, but i feel like whether or not i'll be offered a job is really up in the air... ;(
there were about 20 people at the interview divided up into 3 groups of about 6 people each. the interview started out with the person in charge talking about the company and general details about jobs for 20~ mins. after that we were to do 2 group activities, each of which we were only given 5 mins to do. recruiters sat just outside of each group circle and took down notes.
the 1st activity was a hypothetical situation of helping a customer who's interested in a sandwich maker. there were three key things that we were to decide how we'd deal with and then we were to somehow present what we decided to everyone at the front of the room. the biggest thing that was stressed was that EVERYone in the group was to be part of the presentation.
so, after 4 mins of group discussion in which i tried to throw out my opinion/ideas/etc as much as i could, it was announced that only 1 min remained. we were trying to divvy up roles for a roleplay but before we could even get anywhere with that one of the group members was obviously really nervous and kept saying that there was no way he could roleplay and so the person who was acting as leader of the group tried to convince him to just be a narrator. before the guy would even say ye or ne to the position the 1 min was up and it was time to present.... just before the first group got up to present the "leader" whispered to everyone suggesting we just do a discussion of the 3 key points we were given. heads nodded in agreement. we ended up being the last group to go, the other two groups both having roleplayed practically the same thing. as soon as we got up to the front of the room, the nervous guy immediately started talking and announced that we were going to do a roleplay, which immediately trigging "o_o;; ...s" from the rest of us but he didn't seem to notice... after some hesitation, the "leader" initiated a COMPLETELY improv roleplay that resulted in only 2 other people really getting to do anything.... after the 1st roleplay the nervous guy said we'd do another of an alternative way of handling the hypothetical situation, but everyone just ignored that and just discussed how they'd handle the situation... D;
1st activity = largely FAILED.
the 2nd activity didn't require presenting anything, thank god. we were presented with a situation where a lot of stuff was happening all at once and we had 5 minutes to discuss how we'd prioritize dealing with everything that had to be dealt with. i think i did alright with this activity.... i contributed to the discussion a lot and even tried to keep it out track by bringing up things that it seemed others had forgotten about the hypothetical situation.
2nd activity = OK?
after the two activities we were told about how the rest of the application/training process would go IF we were successful in the group interview. supposedly we'll find out within 10 days via email. we were given time to fill out some forms and then were called to the back of the room one-by-one to have a "chat" with the recruiter that had been observing our group. the chat went well, except that i was informed of something really meh.... apparently they generally only hire people with visas if they can work for atleast 12 months... my visa limits me to 6. =_=;;;
goddamn visa screws my chances at employment so damn much.... IT'S SO GODDAMN FRUSTRATING!!!
...anyway, you can imagine how much of a letdown hearing that was... but she didn't say that i definitely wouldn't be hired. she went on to ask me about previous work in retail and seemed to be really positive while jotting down things about my job at Sears.
so yeah... i'm really not sure if i'll hear back from them... would they not consider someone with my visa even for an xmas position....?? i hope not.... i'll find out soon enough. ;(
right now i just want to sit back, relax and enjoy episodes of House.
