Joe's Trip

Aug 23, 2008 09:14

I feel bad for Joe.  He came here on Saturday and got here early, but they lost his luggage.  And I thought I had strep.  We pretty much slept all day until 7pm when his brother came and took us to Riverside where I couldn't eat or drink anything because of my throat.  I did see Phelps win his 8th gold though before I went to sleep.  At 5:40am the airport guy called to say he was standing outside my apartment with Joe's bag (did he knock on the door - no).  So I had to call Jenny to get the bag.  Sunday was DISNEYLAND.  It was fun - except I felt sick during the hottest hours (like I thought I was going to vomit), but Bill gave me a vicadin, so swallowing wasn't so so bad.  We stayed until the park closed, and got on all the rides we wanted to.  I want to go back so badly!

Monday I felt even shittier, so I dragged Joe with me to the doctors and lo!  I didn't have strep which they gave me drugs for without checking, I had mono!  So after waiting around for blood tests (apparently I have small veins) and then for the pharmacy to fill my prescriptions for vicadin and prednisone (steriods).  We also went to the Cabo Cantina and then saw Tropic Thunder.  I would pay $10 just to see the parts with Tom Cruise - he was so f*cking hilarious!  The other guys play normal roles for them, but Joe couldn't believe that was Tom Cruise.  Forget the whole scientology thing!  I actually felt better at the end of the day.  Tuesday I had to go into work, where Elaine was like "I don't have much you can do from home" which was bullshit because she found a ton for me to do as soon as I told her I had mono!  Haha.  We went to Santa Monica Beach on Tuesday and I didn't get burned (some parts turned a little pink the next morning, but no peeling - nothing bad like usual).  Wednesday I took Joe to the Getty Center because they had a special exhibit on Bernini.  So we saw that, and a lot of Medieval and Renaissance work.  We did see some Impressionists and Post-Impressism painters (Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gaughin, etc) - but Joe doesn't like these styles so I had to rush!  We also got sushi and for once Joe got full at a reasonable price on it!  We tried to watch Old School, but both fell asleep.  Thursday my friends and I went to Huntington Gardens (see facebook for pics) in early 1800s costumes.  Bethany (darkest hair) made ALL the dresses.  We got a lot of compliments and people asking to take our pictures.  We went for High Tea and then only had time to walk briskly through the Japanese Garden because it closed at 4:30.  After Joe and I came home and went up to Century City Shopping Center and ate at the Pink Taco where he told them it was my birthday.  Sweet.  Luckily there was no singing.

Friday I dragged Joe to get a pedicure with me.  I got my nails painted (he didn't, but they asked anyway), and then I look over and he's getting a neck massage and a manicure!!  I wanted a manicure too, but my lady sucked and was like "you only ask pedicure" so whatever.  Then we went to a Thai Massage place.  It was OK, I wish it had been a little cleaner, but OMG!  That lady's elbow found like all the knots in my shoulders and holy shit it hurt!  Even Joe told me after his really hurt.  Otherwise it was really cool massage.  Nothing like Swedish.  These people walk all over you, literally.  So then we finally went to Venice Beach (nicer than SaMo Beach), and I went in the ocean a little.  Then we stayed down there to drink and then I had to get Joe home because he had to leave.  His flight was at 11:10pm, but I guess it had engine trouble and they cancelled it and rescheduled him on a flight to Chicago at 1:30am.  But he missed his connecting flight to Albany there, so I think he left there about an hour ago, so he should be almost back to NY.  He was going to drive up to Potsdam today, but I don't think so.  He needed an oil change and to have a tire resealed.  Hm, oh well.

I'm going home in 2 weeks, so I'll be over mono, and hopefully Joe will  not have caught it from me!  Luckily, you can't get it again!  I'm getting stressed about my hieroglyphs comp exam coming up.  So I'll be working on that stuff all weekend and every waking moment.  Fun times.
