Vienna!!
Hey all!! Well, I am in lovely Vienna. I have had a wonderful day and my feet are killing me! :)
My au pair friend Karen and her husband happen to be in Vienna, too this weekend, so we arranged to meet up this morning and do a few things together. That was fun! After breakfast at my hostel (Wombats, THE best hostel in Europe) we headed off to the Spanish Riding School to see the famous white Lipazaner Stallions in thier morning trainings. (yes, Elissa, I have seen them!! I know you'll be glad) They were beautiful!
From there it was a quick walk across the courtyard to the Emeperors Apartments and the "Sissi" museum (for Emperess Elizabeth "Sissi"). Talk about lots of huge ornately decorated rooms!! It was really a beautiful palace.
Then it was lunch time. We ate a famous little cafe (whose name I cannot remember, but will add later) that served these delicious little sandwiches and tiny steins of beer. Mmm, yummy! After lunch we went to St. Stephan's cathederal. It was yet another beautiful Baroque church. (so many cathedrals, so little time, lol)
Then Karen & Chris decided to go to the National Treasury while I went to the Kunsthistorisches Museum (art history museum) which boasts one of the best collections in Europe. It was awesome!! Rembrant, Titian, van Eyck, to name a few...
We met up later this evening to go to the Opera...but that will have to wait, cause I am almost out of time
