Well, it was a crazy weekend in Uster last week. First of all, I thought I was going to be watching the kids on Friday night, so Peter and Ximena could go out and then I would have Sat night to myself. I had tenatively planned to go to the movies w/ Anna. Then Ximena calls me on Friday morning and says "We'd actually like to do something w/ the kids this evening, could we swap nights?" Ok, no big deal, didn't have anything firmly planned yet & fortunately Anna could go out Friday night. I just had to get the kids from daycare and feed them a quick dinner before Peter picked them up.
Then Anna and I went and saw "The Producers" at this old-fashioned theater on the other side of Zurich. The place really had "character", to say the least. And we had obviously picked a very popular movie because the place was "packed" with about 7 other people. lol! But, hey, we had a good time. We laughed SO HARD!
Saturday was yet another interesting day...after lunch, Ximena asked me if I could start watching the kids early (like 3pm) instead of the usual 6pm on "going-out" nights, because she needed to run a few errands. Then she and Peter would catch an early movie and be home around 8ish. No problem. I took the kids to a small fair that was going on in the city park (a group from a Baptist church in Georgia was putting it on w/ the local Salvation Army as a ministry, believe it or not) for an hour or so. When we got back about an hour later, Ximena was there, but not Peter (he was at the office finishing an urgent project). She said, ok, I'm going to go out and do a few things in the garden, let me know when he gets here, please. WELLLL, 6 o'clock finally rolls around and he's still not back. Ximena calls him: Oh, he just has 10 more slides to finish! lol, ok, so it doesn't look like they are going out tonight. We have dinner and Ximena says, why don't we go to the circus then? It was supposed to be down the street in the local school yard/soccer field. So, we head out there and guess what! NO CIRCUS! Literally! There we're a few circus wagons, but no tent in sight! It was very strange...
So, after all that, they went to rent a movie and I actually went, spur of the moment, to a Country Music festival that was going on in Uster! It was quite interesting...I knew there was a pretty big country fan base in Germany, but didn't realize it was so popular in Switerland. It is. There had to have been about 300-400 people there, all dressed in cowboy hats and boots. It was a fun time. But, you will never guess which song it was that finally got everyone up and moving. (the Swiss can be a little stiff at times) Not Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party" nor the Dixie Chicks "Sin Wagon" (both very, ahem, rousing tunes), no, it was Billy Ray Cyrus's "Achey-Breakey Heart"!! I was like, come on, you've got to be kidding me! It was so funny! Ah, well, it was fun for a last-minute kind of thing.
