SURPRISE (OR NOT), IT'S THE MOST 'ME' FESTIVID I HAVE EVER MADE.
As the gods overthrew the titans, so has man overthrown the gods. But when man visits his sins upon his children, how shall he be repaid? - Cerberus, New Cap City

For those who know little or nothing about the source, "Caprica" was a prequel to Battlestar Galactica that aired in 2010, cancelled after one season. Set around 50 years before the events of BSG, it explored the universe of that show prior to the first creation and rebellion of the Cylons (sentient machines who'd eventually destroy most of the human race, yada yada) If you'd like to know more about either show, trust me I could go on for DAYS. :p
With "Caprica", I was always especially drawn to the stories of these three teenage girls, human and proto-Cylon. How in their individual and tied-together way they are all figuring out who they are and rise from being hurt and powerless to discovering incredible (and potentially scary) strength in themselves. While I'm sad the show only had one season, the journey these three go on is *so* strong I almost feel like it stands perfectly on its own. I just really, really love how the birth of the Cylons is linked thematically and literally to what are essentially female coming-of-age and father/daughter stories.
I knew of Springsteen's
Adam Raised a Cain from its use as an episode title in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, another show about killer robots, so it's always had both literal parent-child and Creator-created implications to me. :) This cover was a GODSEND.
lyrics
In the summer that I was baptized
My father held me to his side
As they put me to the water
He said how on that day I cried
We were prisoners of love, a love in chains
He was standing in the door, I was standing in the rain
With the same hot blood burning in our veins
Adam raised a Cain, raised a Cain
Adam raised a Cain, raised a Cain
All of the old faces
Ask you why you're back
They fit you with position
And the keys to your Daddy's Cadillac
In the darkness of your room, your mother calls you by your name
You remember the faces, the places, the names
You know it's never over, it's relentless as the rain
Adam raised a Cain, raised a Cain
Adam raised a Cain, raised a Cain
In the Bible, Cain slew Abel
And East of Eden he was cast
You're born into this life paying
For the sins of somebody else's past
Daddy worked his whole life for nothing but the pain
Now he walks these empty rooms looking for something to blame
You inherit the sins, you inherit the flames
Adam raised a Cain, raised a Cain
Lost but not forgotten
From the dark heart of a dream
Adam raised a Cain
