It's only Tuesday...
Call me crazy, but this week has seemed unusually long so far. It's only Tuesday, but I feel like it's dragging...
Tomorrow is day 3 of this Behavior Initiative workshop I'm taking as part of my school's Behavior Leadership Team (BLT). It's been extremely interesting. A lot of what our presenter is saying makes total sense. Her focus is on building relationships with our students and how we can help them become successful and productive at school. Encouragement rather than consequences. There are consequences to be had, just not in the way most school traditionally do it.
My school analyzed their data on referrals today. We had a total of 5400 referrals last year, and that's 1200 less than the year before. 62% of those referrals were in the classroom. What we discovered was that the majority of the referrals were issued within the first 10 minutes of every class period indicating that there's a possibility that something happening in the hallways is carrying over into classrooms. Trust me, it is neat to explore this type of data.
Anyway, nothing else exciting going on. I'm hoping to be in my classroom Thursday and Friday. My principal promised me keys. I also have to find a new white board since my other one was damaged when the custodians moved it. There's a big hole right in the middle of it from what my principal told me, but he said he would replace it. Thank goodness because that's my assignment/announcement board. I need that the first day of school. I want to see if I can get one that can be mounted on the wall so that it doesn't get in the way. We'll see.
