It's a hot Thursday afternoon, and I am in serious need of some chocolate.
Anyway, I went to the dentist this morning for my 6 month cleaning. No cavities; however, I found out that my insurance will not cover my tooth implant. For those not up to speed, I had a baby tooth extracted in June because it had a cavity. I say baby tooth because there was never a permanent tooth for it. Therefore, I have a huge space where that tooth was. The dentist had suggested a tooth implant. It's basically a fancy crown type thing. So, when they went to do the estimate, it came back that the insurance would not cover it because I never had the permanent tooth. So, I either fork out $1300 or deal with the space. I'm not sure what to do yet. I'm sure some would say it's cosmetic, but not having that tooth there makes it hard to chew. You would think that would make the implant necessary. We'll see.
On a happier note, I got the keys to my classroom today. Most of my furniture was moved. I still need to see about a few items that I want like an extra table and some chairs for group work. Glen, the head custodian, told me to catch him tomorrow and he'd get some stuff for me as well as move some filing cabinets. I love when they move things because there's no order to it whatsoever. They just move and dump stuff wherever. So, I spent about an hour moving what I could where I wanted it. I'm still not sure what to do with all the stuff yet.
I have 2 large bookshelves that they gave me plus the small one that I had moved. I have brand new desk chair plus the 2 old ones they moved from my old room. I have 20 desks that I thought I was originally going to get rid of 5, but my AP told me that I have about 14 kids a class due to scheduling difficulties. Therefore, I might as well keep all of them just in case. I'll just have to get creative with my arrangement. I'm not big on the traditional row thing. I've considered a "U" shape, but with 20 desks that's a bit difficult. We'll see.
After working for an hour, I stopped in to see another teacher friend of mine, and we talked for a while. Then I decided it was too hot to retrieve the rest of my stuff from the car and wander all the way back to my room. Instead, I'm getting up early tomorrow and going in. I plan to spend most of the day there getting my room set up. Some friends are going to help with the moving of furniture if the custodian hasn't done it. Also, we're going to get a huge piece of tile board to put up on one side of the room. That is going to be my replacement white board. I prefer white boards over chalkboards any day. So, I'm going to use my chalkboard for assignments and my white board will be where I teach from and do overhead work.
Okay, enough with the school rant. I'm going to take a nap and make some phone calls. Happy Reading!
