Metal Time - Demons!
Time for 6 of my favorite
In my humble opinion every list about metal should start of with a Danzig song. He covers all the basic skulls, demons, fire, hell, and mothers.
1. Danzig - Am I Demon
Note the excellent use of a fuzzy dog-deer-bear-wolf-Devil Halloween mask on Danzig's muscular frame to give a visual representation of the lyrics: "Am I beast or Am I human Am I just like you." Also the crucification of dog-deer-bear-wolf-Devil-Danzig lends some palpable tension to this other wise performance drive video. You're lift wondering "what's gonna happen to our fuzzy friend and why is that stripper grinding on his crucified body?"
2. Rob Zombie - Demon Speeding
This song is classic Zombie. He takes a horror movie title, in this case: "In the mouth of Madness" throws some other macabre imagery in there: "Hey do ya love it when the kids are screaming - Wrecking on the road violate their dreaming - Hey, do ya love to see the filth in the clean." Then he screams the title of the song a bunch of times which usually involves Demons, Hell, Speed, Zombies, or that on time a Dodge Durango.. It's a formula - but it works every time.
3. Pantera - By Demons be Driven
With Lyrics so Metal it hurts my eyes to read:
"With decline in mind
End not far
We're left hanging alone here
He pulls us from nails
Shatters our bones
Leaving us crippled and strewn
Boiling my corpse in the blood of his children
Praying for his god to prevail
Burying us with loved ones
To sleep with shelled children of the sixth dimension"
But can anyone tell me what the fuck the shelled children of the sixth dimension are? Are they sort of snail kids - because that is not so terrifying. Oh know they're coming at us very slowly...
4. Cannibal Corpse - Demon's Night
Here Cannibal Corpse cleverly points out that Demon's Night, is a night to die. I was hoping it was a night for slow dancing, but that's just me.
5. Mastodon - Quintessence
Here Rasputin does something with "Demon Skin" to pull the paraplegic traveler into him - or what ever the fuck this new album is about - other than guitars exploding proggy metal.
6. Meshuggah - Stengah
I not sure if this about literal demons ripping you apart or metaphorical demons of addiction: "Beaten to the unforgiving ground. Lashed into submission - By the inner starving demon. By its unrelenting hand Still you claim the worshipper's pose and you bow. You kneel to the syringe." Either way it's demons, it's pounding metal, and it's Swedish. And the Swedes are clearly demonic as they conjured that little bit of hell on earth known as Ikea. Also only demons would eat such tiny fucking meatballs.
*Note Google Chrome's spell check recognizes Danzig, but not Ikea - Google Chrome is the most metal of browsers.
