My blog is a bit like a wilted plant at the moment, it needs lots of sun and water, or posts and comments, to pirk it up. I’ve been rather busy with various things and they’ve all been eating up my time. Time that I should be spending productively writing things like this. Hmmm
Things are going well, I’m getting into my job and feel I understand things fairly well now. Joe, from my team, is away this week, so I’ve been attending various working group meetings, along with a meeting with a new bank, all of which have gone well. I’m starting to feel like I add a little value to my work, rather than just getting the job done. Hopefully my boss will agree when I have my first performance review next week!
Otherwise I’ve been busy with seeing friends, helping Hilary look for a job, and (mostly in the last week) trying to find somewhere to live. It’s quite exciting moving towards finding my own place in London, but it’s also hard work, as there are so many other people looking. Good properties disappear incredibly quickly. This week I saw a place in the evening, rang the next day at nine arranged a viewing, to find that it had gone by eleven. Today we went to visit a place which was perfect in terms of location, near Moorgate station, and next to the barbican. It looked like an incredible place from the photos, and generally was. The bedrooms were too small though, and it became pretty clear it wasn’t what we were looking for. It’s a real shame, there are few places where you can walk into the city in less than fifteen minutes. We have a couple more viewings at the weekend, quite a bit further out in north London, so hopefully that will give us an idea of what we should be looking at.
I got my films developed from South Africa this weekend. It was a bit of a revelation. Film is still far superior to digital. The colours are much better and so is the image quality. I’ve been thinking about getting a Canon 400d for some time, but this has completely changed my mind. I need to find somewhere cheaper to get films developed, but otherwise I’m happy to stick with film. A new digital would cost me £450, for essentially a digital version of the camera I already own. This way I can spend a fraction of that money on a new lens, and take comparable if not better photos :o)
I’ll try and scan some of them at some point and put some up here.
I’ve got some things to look forward to. It was my brother’s birthday today, and I’m going round his tomorrow for some drinks and food. Then on Sunday he’s coming round here for a family meal. Then the next weekend I’m off to Morocco for two weeks with Hilary. It’s been somewhere I’ve wanted to go for a long time, so I’m quite excited. I’m debating whether to take one camera or two though, so I can take b/w and colour shots.
Right now I’m very tired though, so it’s off to bed for me, so I can see the week off in style tomorrow. Sleep well!!
