I got a pretty good laugh out of what I found in the mailbox Saturday...
"Mr. Baranovic,
We have an assignment for you in Murfreesboro City from hours xxx to xxx on xxx and xxx. The pay is $10.50 per hour. This is an armed security assignment, and you will have to supply your own equipment. Uniforms will be issued accordingly. The client has indicated he will increase the hours depending on business, so you will get more hours as we go further. Should this interest you please contact us immediately."
Oh God! I am needed! Where's a phone booth when I need one?
Well, the hours listed are horrid and right in the middle of everything. I've got my internship starting today, so I'm turning this one down - although the money does sound nice. I can't get too greedy, however...
New hours with funeral honors, 1600-2000... Not bad at all... It's simple office work (baby sit the phone), same pay, and a concrete/static schedule in which to build off of. Nice! Things may be looking up after all...
Saturday was a glorious day indeed, as it was my official last day at Red Lobster. I'm surprised I ended up leaving on good terms despite my "no-call, no-show" on this last Tuesday. For the record, I'm on a "leave of absence" of which I'm not necessarily planning to come back from. We'll see where this goes... I know I'll end up missing some of the guys...
There's something about being "blue-collar" that gets me every time. It's like the people don't care what you do on your own time, and we're all stuck in the same shit situation. It's dirty, hot, and sucks. They occasionally get together, but there are no politics involved at all. A little drama, sure, but overall I appreciate it much more for fact you don't have to have eyes in the back of your head to see if your peer is trying to stab you in the back to better himself. They know how to have a good time, that's for sure...
I'm not "white-collar" but more "green-collar" in that I work for the military primarily. It's a whole different world out there which never involves clock hours used to do a job. We're all on salary, and the word "overtime" simply doesn't exist. Apart from that, the Army has a next to infinite surplus of manpower. I love that phrase, "I need more bodies! Sergeant, give me some of your privates!" That's just wrong...
I'm just glad that I'm back down to one job once again and it's business as usual. I get my weekends back, and "days off" actually exist once again. Yay!
Being my first official "day off," I had trouble filling my time on Sunday. Jon called about 1400, and suggested that since I was rather unoccupied that I should take a trip to Missouri. Fair enough... I took his suggestion, but had to coax my neighbor's kid to mow my yard with a barter trade. "I'll give you a full tank of gas, $10, and a pack of cigarettes if you take care of this for me..." It was a deal, despite my contribution to minors smoking. Hell, he would have gotten some from somebody anyway - I'd just rather he earns his worth and doesn't steal from his parents.
Drove to Missouri (4 hours... Absolutely nothing...) and had coffee with Jon. He drops me a dime that Svetla is actually planning on visiting back in Missouri from Boston over the summer. Well, it'll have been about 12 months then. I should hope she's gotten over her grudge by then... Damn, she's a stubborn woman... Her phone actually works now, surprisingly.
Talked with my brother Andy - his new plan is to keep the business running due to his girlfriend planning to stay in Cape Girardeau vs. Oregon. That's good news. Interestingly enough, he suggested that he's going to be getting a new place sometime after the summer. "You should come back up here..." I just might...
I really don't have a huge amount going for me down here in Tennessee other than I keep getting these different crazy and random things happening every other week. This week I get to play "loan shark" to help my ex-roommate out of a jam, mostly only in that the sooner he gets out of it, the sooner his belongings get out of my house and the garage. "I still owe my dad for my car... If I pay him off, I'll have him off my back and free up a ton of time during the week without having to put up with his BS." I'd say it's a fair deal at 1000% APR. I just told him to remember I'll break his face if he doesn't have my money in two weeks. Well, this and I'm drawing up a contract on this one, for sure... Wording it right, I could get more money out of selling all his junk than the money he's borrowing, so at least I've got excess collateral to rely on. I don't mean to be mean like this, but I do still have two other shitbags that owe me $4500. I don't even think the two of them together are even worth that today, even after two years. So much for helping "good friends." Grrr...
Still not sure what's going on with OBC orders and school this fall semester. I'm registering for classes as a contingency, but I'm just going to have to cross my fingers this actually works and does go through. If it does, I'll be breaching my contract for sure and pissing off some people at ROTC, big time. I don't mind giving them the shaft considering they canceled my previous orders 4 days before I was supposed to go, those bastards. A little vengeance on my part won't smooth things over, but at least I'll sleep better at night having taken care of my own concerns for once - NOT their interests. I refuse to play "little man" in their game.
This next week will mark a new start in that I'm not going to be "Mr. Burn-Out." Time to get big... I'm aiming for 200+ lbs once again by August... We'll see how this goes... RAGH! Hey, I did it before in about two months back at Wentworth... I could surely do it again.
Lost and alone, but alas, I have no fear. I will show them a new tomorrow...
