He had been sure everything would be over, as soon as he saw the dark red blood would splattered on the windshield, mixed with what only second earlier had been the bastard’s brain.
He had been wrong.
He had hoped the guilt would vanish, once the killer of his family was dead, killed by his own hand, vengeful and in cold blood.
It didn’t.
He had wished for something to ease the constant pain he was living with, with every breathe he took, ever since he’d learned that his family was gone.
It never happened.
Hunting down the man who was responsible for everything that had happened had felt like the only chance he had to move on with his life, to survive, and to finally be able to breathe again.
It didn’t work.
He had been sure the nightmares would end, eventually.
They didn’t.
The only thing that changed since Mexico was the guilt he was now feeling for murdering someone else’s son, brother, husband, father.
His dreams never changed, the nightmares never ended, the pain never became bearable. Kelly and Shannon were still with him, every time he dared to close his eyes; and even when he didn’t.
