"That reminds me of ..." The usual excitement in his voice showed Jimmy that it was time for one of Dr. Mallard’s tales. Smiling, he gave his boss a short look to tell him he had his attention, before returning back to work.
When he’d just started working for NCIS, the never-ending stories had been disturbing, yet educational and interesting. He’d no idea how to feel about this quirk; especially, after realizing how annoyed the others were by the stories he enjoyed.
Sometimes, Jimmy had the suspicion that Dr. Mallard may just be a show-off (something Jimmy had picked up after spending too much time with Tony), but Jimmy knew that couldn’t be true. Dr. Mallard didn’t need that.
Later, he’d started to think that Dr. Mallard may only be telling his stories because of his mother; that he was trying to keep her memories alive (but forgot that she wasn’t with them all the time). But was that the real reason?

No matter what the explanation was, Jimmy loved the stories, and he secretly hoped that, one day, he’d be able to tell his stories with the same grace Dr. Mallard was now telling him about the one time he ...
