I remember a birthday of Evie's I went to a long long time ago. We were little punk kids in elementary school and there were all sorts of birthday games going on outside. I went inside to get a drink of water and Evie's grandmother tried to help me; I was so startled by her barking Russian that I think I dropped the glass of water all over the floor and peed my pants. I was SO scared. And I wasn't even drunk.
That was what stuck in my mind from July 25th way back then... not how much I love Evie, how grateful I am for her friendship, how much it means to me that we have been friends for so long, and how much I hope we will remain friends forever. But that is what I feel today and that is one of the most wonderful things about growing older and growing older with good friends. I remember the first day you walked into my life and Ms. Nixon's 1st grade class. Who know that that girl who babbled to us in a strange language, walked into the boys bathroom, and ran over to the scary looking man with red hair by the fence to give him a hug would become one of the people in this world I treasure the most.
You are amazing, girlie, and you have the world at your hands. Thank you for being you, and for sharing your time with me!
I wish I could be with you today and celebrate you and for you!
