on 'how's thangs' and so on...

here in milledgeville, my ice-machine overfloweth....

most mornings, while sitting on my apartment's only couch and drinking several chilled cups of folger's dark roast,  i can't help but think of the SCAT House's always-empty ice-machine.  With four people sharing an apartment--not to mention our myriad nightly visitors--the poor contraption just couldn't keep up with the insatiable demand for cold beverage after cold beverage.  it's a recollection that saddens me from time to time.  here in milledgeville, visitors are a rarity.  though i've honed a keen appreciation for this newfound privacy, i can't help but miss the seemingly endless procession of evening guests that became such a deeply engrained staple throughout the time in my life that is now exclusively referred to in the past tense.  "back in college.."  whenever i say it, i can't shake the feeling that i'm putting up some ridiculous flase pretense of adulthood.

but apart from the occasional desire to return to times past, Milledgeville and Georgia College have proven to be a good fit for yours truly.  as i'd anticipated, graduate school is a refreshing departure from the not-so-hard-to-detect trivialities and formalities that i so often associate wth LSU and college in general.  rather than a student, my professors here treat me as though i'm a colleague, an asset to the program instead of a faceless identification number attached to some semesterly fee bill.  workshops are professional, comprised of thoughtful opinions and compelling arguments for change, and stories that would've easily ranked among the best i'd seen at LSU are methodically picked apart and readied for significant revisions.  my thesis advisor, allen gee, is unquestionably the most impressive teacher with whom i've ever worked.  his suggestions during workshop are mind-blowing, and i'm confident that if anyone can make me a better writer, he'll be the man to do it.

also: going on a Carribbean cruise with friends from the program after finals

and: I'll be in baton rouge 10/19-10/22

guh, another crappy entry.  all apologies.
