1. Work/Programming
Busy is good. At the moment I’m working at home 3 days a week. I’ve actually had to start using a computerized task list to track the status on all my projects so I don’t lose track of any of them. I have so many currently in process it was becoming hard to keep track of how each was going.
I’m almost done updating my name at work. I hope today to get my picture updated.. and once that’s done to get a new employee badge(new picture from this decade and new name), the name plate for my office is on the way.. and shortly I should be able to order new business cards and update the name on my mailbox.
Now I just need to update everything in my personal life. Yeah…
2. Home/Erik
These last two weeks we’ve had a TON of visitors. Morgan, my step daughter, came to visit for almost a week. It was great to have her there. I never thought I’d be a step-mother. I wonder if that means I need to be evil. It’s odd to be able to say this.. but my son has a sister who is 19 years older than him.
After Morgan left, Rockstar came to visit for the weekend. He’s been out of the SCA for a while but indicated he was interested in getting back into it. At the very last minute we dragged him off to Mists Coronet. We received word that Mark, one of our groomsmen, was going to propose to Patsy, my maid of honor (
video). We HAD to be there and Rockstart graciously allowed us to drag him along. That said, he seemed to have fun.
Then we had David and Velma, Fearghus’ brother and his wife, in town for a few days.
Finally Romolo stayed over on Saturday night.
I think we’ll take a breather on having people visit for a while. In fact, Fearghus was talking about converting the guest room back into a sewing room for me. Since I’ve got a bunch of sewing projects on deck that might not be a bad idea.
Eventually that room will become Erik’s room.. but we plan to keep him sleeping in our room probably until he’s a year old.
Erik is now almost 5 months old (5 months on the 19th). He’s rolling over both front to back and back to front and I say he’s starting to communicate. Fearghus isn’t yet convinced.
I noticed a few days ago that when Erik gets agitated and I asked “Is your diaper dirty?” he would thump the front of his diaper. Fearghus says I’m reading more into it than’s there.. but every time I see him thump the front of his diaper I change him.. and every time that happens his diaper is dirty.. and I don’t see him thumping the front of his diaper at other times. So I’m going to declare it as communication.
At his last doctor’s appointment(4 mo appt 2 weeks ago) he was 17 lbs, 11.3 oz and 26.6 inches long. He’s in the 90th percentile across the board (ie, he’s bigger than 90% of other boy babies his same age) and we’ve been putting him in 6mo clothing since he was 3mo. At this point I don’t buy anything smaller than 9mo. The doctor had us drop the 3am feeding. So now we’re feeding at 8am, 11:30am, 3pm, 6:30pm and 10pm. After the 10pm feeding we go to bed. It’s been HEAVEN sleeping through the whole night. I cannot even emphasize that enough.
I think at his next appt (6 months) I’ll see about adjusting his feedings to a 4 hour schedule(8am, 12pm, 4pm, 8pm) and putting him to bed after the 8pm feeding. That will allow us a little bit of time after he goes to bed to work on projects.
3. Health
C25K tweaked my knee so I gave it two weeks off. Honestly I gave it a week off.. and then one week led to two. I’m planning to start it up again tomorrow morning.
Weight is mostly maintaining. I did hit a low of 295 mid last week.. but then I had ice cream over the weekend. This morning I was at 296.7 which is still 1.6 lbs down from the last Friday Five a month ago.
I think I’m going to set a bite-sized goal. I want to get to 285. That’s only ~10 lbs away. I plan to do this by avoiding those things I know I shouldn’t have until those 10 lbs are gone. A hard 10. I can do it!
4. SCA/Projects
Good progress on Bob’s Waffenrock. I’m aiming to have it done for Beltane.
Their Excellencies Kolskagg and Katla, the next Prince and Princess of the Mists, have asked me to serve on their court and to do their stepping down garb. Germans. Their step down is in November so there’s plenty of time. I’ll need to chat with them to confirm what exactly we’re doing. I’m looking forward to this project.
Normally on Tuesday night Fearghus goes to a practice down south. My plan is to do sewing in between child care. I’ll try it out tomorrow and see how it works. If I’m getting a decent amount of sewing done then I may open Tuesday nights up to my students. (I’m figuring if I spend most of the night tomorrow doing baby care it’d be silly to open my house up to other people as a sewing night).
Project list:
1. Bob’s Waffenrock. Mockup is done, sleeves are patterned. Now just need to cut it all out and put it all together.
2. Finish adding eyelets to the front of my brown wool kirtle. I managed to add about 3 more eyelets to this. Slow and steady.
3. Gold Anglo-Saxon hand-sewn tunic. Finished two seams and started another.
4. Mossy brown tunic for Erik. This is cut out and the machine sewing is done. I just need to finish the hand sewing. I’m hoping to have this done for Towne Market this next weekend.
5. Pennsic is coming. Pennsic project list: 2 tunics for Fearghus, 3 kirtles for me, coifs, hood and garb for Erik.
6. Germans for Kolskagg and Katla.
7. 12th night. I have visions of something over the top for my family at 12th night this year. We’ll see if I still feel that way post-Pennsic.
5.
I can see Erik developing into a real live miniature human being. I wonder if it’s because I’m his mother and watching him so closely. Do other people still see a squalling infant? or do they see that glint of mischief in his eyes that I see?
Video: Mischief in his eyes. I look at him and I can see the wheels turning. It’s kind of impressive.
