This is my second slightly tipsy 30 days of film post. Just had a bunch of people over as a sort of leaving party get together thing. It was a brilliant night. Alas, my week got so busy I had to have it on Thursday, and most people had to work so it wasn't a long night. But fun. Also, I am now *possibly*, kind of, a little bit addicted to Guitar Hero. So that's another thing to add to my list of things to buy. Oops?
On with the meme!
• Day 16 - A movie that you used to love but now hate
This one was actually quite easy as there was only really one pick and that was:
Bridget Jones' Diary (2001)
(guys, guys, guys, the Danish title is Bridget Jones' Dagbog! Awesome)
So, why did I love this film? And how did I come to hate it? Well, funnily enough, the reason is also the subject of
yesterday's post; Elizabeth Bennet.
The story goes like this:
One upon a time there was a Michelle. This Michelle liked Colin Firth very much, and thought that Bridget Jones' Diary was just the best film ever because it was full of Colin Firth being all brooding and silent, and then all romantic. And then Michelle found out that Bridget Jones' Diary was based on Pride and Prejudice. And that they had made an adaptation of it also starring Colin Firth and he was *even more* brooding and silent. And there was a scene with a lake. Then Michelle found that said adaptation was being repeated on BBC 3. Michelle watched the first two episodes and loved it so much she bought the DVD, despite missing the other four episodes. After watching the whole thing Michelle went into the nearest bookshop and bought the book. And then Michelle read the book and went... "Hang on? So they took this independent minded, intelligent woman who didn't have the aspirations that society expected her to have and was perfectly happy with the fact that she wasn't going to find the kind of love that would induce her to marry and so would be alone and decided that the best modern analogy they could come up with was a whiny, slightly stupid woman obsessed with her looks and weight who was absolutely desperate to shack up with some man? And they thought this was a *good* thing?"
And thus Michelle hated Bridget Jones' Diary (although not with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, because, you know, it still has Colin Firth in it.)
The End.
