Con Report: Part The Second

Jul 24, 2010 07:42

This is a mark of how tired I was yesterday.  I forgot to add that on our second trip to the Exhibition Hall we swung back by BBC America stand, just as they were giving out Look Around You Lab Coats! Which we then got signed by Peter Serafinowicz and Robert Popper. IT FREAKING ROCKS DUDE!!

I also forgot to mention we got free garlic bread from Scott Pilgrim Vs Comic Con. And that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost appeared briefly at the Scott Pilgrim panel.

So onwards, to day two.

Today was a little bit of a fail day.

First of all this morning on our way out I took a picture of our Hotel and Hayley on the balcony:

When we got there we saw a San Diego 6 News van. San Deigo 6 News is your place for balanced news. Their morning show is reporting from Comic Con, so we watch them before we leave. Ruben is their man on the spot and on Thursday was dressed as the Mad Hatter and today was dressed as The Flash. We love San Diego 6 News:

Then we jumped into the exhibition hall where I got plum177 's birthday present which I think is pretty awesome, but that you don't get to see till she gets it.
Then we went to queue for Ballroom 20 to see The Big Bang Theory panel. Our first fail of the day. Apparently two hours before the panel is not enough time to get into the room...
I stayed in the queue because the panel after next was The Joss Whedon Experience and Hayley went off to make sure she was in the queue for signing the cast was doing.
One cool thing about the queue was seeing Pimpin' Darth Vader and Blinged Up Boba Fett

I got in just as the Bones panel was starting (the one before Joss Whedon). Not watched Bones but I've been meaning to for ages so it was cool. Panel makes me want to see it more. Hart Hansen is funny. As is Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz bickering. And David Boreanaz's monologue on why he is scared of double decker buses. And I got a ticket for a free thing.

Then was Joss Whedon's panel.

He comes across really well. So glad he's directing The Avengers movie or "his little intimate art film" as he likes to call it. A Serenity Graphic Novel covering Book's backstory is going to be released soon. Highlight of the the panel and my day was Nathan Fillion crashing the panel. There was the normal steady stream of questions and you know, you don't really pay attention all that much to the question asker.
So the question was asked "You work with the same characters a lot. In fact, some might say you play favourites. So who is your favourite actor?"
Joss starts grinning and suddenly it registers. I know that voice. It was Nathan Fillion.
Joss's answer? "I couldn't possibly pick a favourite actor, but I'd have to say it's Nathan Fillion. No, it's Nathan Fillion." *pointing to the question asker*
Camera turns to the mike, and it's Nathan Fillion. In a beret. Wearing a fake moustache.

Nathan Filion sans disguise.

Whilst this was going on, Hayley was experiencing more fail at the Big Bang signing. Stupid Warner Bros guys decided to put it directly after the True Blood signing. And only let 150 people in. And not clear the queue between signings. So all the people let in to the the Big Bang theory signing had been queueing for True Blood. It was ridiculous.
So after that we wandered around the towards the Small Press area.
There was an ugly shirt.

I found a new webcomic. Its called Wireheads Its about visual effects people.  www.wire-heads.com There were zombie bunnies that caught my attention, and we got chatting to the creator and he was awesome. We bought some buttons off him and after reading the first few strips online I may have to go back tomorrow and buy the first volume. I had to stop reading because otherwise I would have been reading all night.

And I got The New Avengers vol 11 hardcover and The Mavel Atlas at 50% off. *grin*

And I bought one of the SDCC exclusive comics - Steve Rogers Super Soldier. *bigger grin*

Major fail earlier in the day pretty much made up for.
We then went to the Fulfilment Room for my free thing. It was a book which was cool. Latest book in the series that Bones is based off of.
Then we went to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner. I bought an awesome berry smoothie:

And got the souvenir glass :)

Also they have The Who signature tshirts. I bought one, of course. Especially as it was only just double the price of the signature pin. It seemed an easy decision. When I tried it on just now, though, I realised it had a hole in it. Have to take it back tomorrow to get an exchanged.

On our way back the table outside of the Scott Pilgrim has gone, so, a photo of me in front of stuff.
