Graduation weekend

Well, this is belated, but here it goes: Graduation was one of the most memorable, stressful, and confusing times in my life! I sudoku'd my way through the first few hours of the ceremony and then blurred through my walk and yelled for my friends a few rows behind. ... I sat down and realized I had no diploma in my roll! *breath* That's right. ( Read more... )

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
HAPPY GRADUATION!!!!!!!

You know, the whole thing is rather odd - you spend so much time and hard work getting to this point and what do you get for it? A blurry pic and an empty tube. It's not just you, you know - I firmly believe that the ceremony is a let down for a lot of people, way more anti-climactic than it should be. Part of the problem, I think, is that tv and movies build it up way too much - it can't possibly be as great as it's made out to be, but we want it to be anyway.

My mom was SO proud that I was the first one on her side of the family to graduate college that she splurged on a mylar balloon and a bouquet of daisies. My brother was so happy for me that he ditched the ceremony - why? Because the Grateful Dead were in town. He promised to meet us for dinner, but he never showed - why? Because the Grateful Dead played this song that they've never played before (because it was a cover) and probably won't ever play again and, dude, how could he possible miss THAT? I mean, honestly, the Dead playing a cover is WAY more monumental than your only sibling graduating college. The whole damn day ended up being about him.

What counts, though, is the hard work you put into it and all the things you learned and the people you met and everything you accomplished, plus how that will help shape where you go next and the things you'll end up doing. Graduation is not the pinnicle - it's a vista, a good place to take a breather, look around, appreciate where you've been and then look ahead to all the possible places you could go, then take another breath and ready yourself to push on ahead.

Congratulations!! You are on your way!!
