Kindle is now returning to its normal function.

Today was my "eReaders: What the Hell are They?" session. OK, it was actually titled "eReader Petting Zoo" since we have multiple devices on loan from a non-profit library group. Only bummer in the selection was they don't have some of the newer devices, such as Kindle's Paperwhite, which was a device someone asked about specifically. Though we did have one of the NOOKs that glow, and it's a similar system.

I was hoping for about 10 - 15 people, but had only 5 (but I also did a lot of one-on-one sessions the previous week for people who couldn't attend). Though at least they all paid attention, asked questions, and learned something. One thing not one of them knew was that touching the power button does not turn a device completely off, it's only in standby mode. One woman had an iPad, and I demonstrated a shutdown on it and she said she'd had a year and never knew this. So I don't feel too bad that I think she thought the class was going to be more along the lines of "Let Me Show You How to Use Your Specific Device" than just an overview of the devices available, how to get free and cheap books, etc.

Now I'm waiting to see which library I have to deliver the bags of goodies to, and how I'm going to accomplish it. The territory the non-profit group is quite large, because they used to be just one regional library system (out of 10 in the state) and now they have members in 3 former systems areas. To give you an idea of how big each system could be, the one my library was in had over 100 member libraries, and in the case of some meetings (which varied locations a lot), I had to drive down the night before so I didn't have to leave my house before the ass crack of dawn.

I'm supposed to go down to Dallas for the next round of Botox this Friday, and I'm hoping I can schedule a dropoff then, even if we have to use a library at a midpoint to do it. Have to email the coordinator to figure out what needs to be done.

The next wait is for the receipt of our grant of three e-readers which I can teach with at civic groups and the like. Already had a nibble for that from one of the people at the meeting.

Now my Kindle, which was on display for the OtterBox case as well as showing how a Peeramid works, can go back to its normal state, which is packed to the gills with slashfic. I didn't put any new stuff from AO3 on it for the past week because I didn't want to have to figure out which stuff was unread versus not (a nitpick I have with personal documents on Kindles) if i took it off the carousel. So it just took three separate emails to send all the stuff I've been saving. Ahem. Anyone want to guess what I'll be doing?

books, slash, library
