Moonlight

Sep 30, 2007 15:40

I have to laugh at all the reviewers commenting on Moonlight being nothing more than a retooled Angel. Seriously? I got to watch the repeat Saturday, and it's totally Forever Knight. SyFy Portal says it did well in the ratings too, despite the critical panning.

I totally agree about the Forever Knight vibes! And the love interest skeeves me as well. Feels too much like robbing the cradle kind of thing!

I wasn't impressed. Not sure I'll make time to watch it again. Although the whole "interview" in the beginning made me want to go double check some of the dialogue in one of my books... *arches eyebrow* Seemed very familiar! *cackle*

I wasn't terribly impressed, but then I know many pilot episodes are often burdened with setting up the show, so I'll give it another chance.

It's one of those shows if it was on after something I liked, I'd watch it, but otherwise, I'll probably forget to tune in.

Just from the previews I was saying, "Not Angel. Forever Knight"

Dear god. Even after all these years, in my mind, Nigel Bennett is saying that and there is a roar afterwards.

I think too many of the reviewers didn't refer to Forever Knight because (a) most viewers of the non-fandom type wouldn't know about it, but would at least be aware of Angel, (b) many reviewers probably didn't know about FK, since it was such a cult show and not a prime time network show, and (c) Angel was just the most recent "vampire show" to stick in their memory.

And yes, the roar is in my head too. ;)

So far I've only made it halfway through the first episode. I'll agree it is a Forever Knight imitation. But, so far, Mick St. John doesn't have the charisma to pull me into the story the way that Nick Knight did right from that show's first ep. I might give it another ep or two, but, the best I can say for it at the moment is "lackluster".

I agree the lead doesn't have the right charisma. That may be due to "pilot-itis" in the first episode trying to set up the storyline and character, but we'll see. I've seen a lot of good shows develop out of crappier pilots.

Feels... I dunno... part stalkery, part incestuous. Did anyone else get that vibe?

Pedophiliac incestuous stalking. He needs to stick with Josef, who is at least an older-than-him twink. 0:)

You know I totally agree with you, right? ;)

But seriously, I wonder what was going through the minds of TPTB setting up that sort of backstory between the two leads? If it had just been a random reporter he met, fine, but with the backstory, icky. I guess we're supposed to think it's all romantic destiny and shit? [...] Nope, I still vote icky.

...that if he didn't look at her now the way he looked at her as a child, it would okay, but it's just possible the actor lacks the range.

Oh, oops. Was that my out-loud voice?

I'm hoping it's just a case of "pilot-itis" but I do think the actor doesn't have the range to carry it off, and that TPTB really do think it's romantic destiny instead of icky.
