For my Texas peeps

I was actually looking for something else when I discovered the Houston Public Library has a similar policy that my library does in regards to digital library cards -- if you're in Texas, it's free. Outside of Texas, it's a $40 fee per year for a non-resident fee. Here's a list of the stuff included with details, but the biggies are Overdrive, Access 360, RB Digital, ComicsPlus, Hoopla, and Freegal. Just fill out the application, and you'll have an email with your digital card in about 10 minutes.

My library has Overdrive (and if you want a card, PM me, even if you're not in Texas), but this one has a different selection. Didn't see much m/m or f/f stuff other than some stuff by Cat Sebastian, but there are still a lot of titles ours doesn't have. I've been checking out some comics with RB Digital, as I've got access through Houston and a local library as well. Looks like waiting lists are much shorter there versus Overdrive, probably due to visibility.

Hoopla was the one I was interested in, because it runs differently from most. Instead of the library paying an annual fee plus buying each title, users have access to the entire catalog, and the library pays a fee per check out, which varies by publisher. As a result, there's a limit on the number of checkouts per month, but no waiting lists. In this case, it's two titles per month. They've got movies, TV shows, comics, and music, and they've got apps for phones/tablets. I've put it on my Roku just like I've got my other streaming services.

I was pleased to see they've got Bigger starring Tyler Hoechlin. I don't really have much interest in the subject, but 107 minutes with Hoechlin and other guys shirtless and flexing much of the time? I'll definitely watch it for free. Quite a few other actors I recognize from genre TV, including Hoechlin's co-star from Teen Wolf, Colton Haynes.
