Lying is uncool, Sheridan.

It's Friday, and I'm having thinky thoughts that have nothing to do with my job.

Said thinking was inspired by this post, made by liminalliz  for the Valentine's Day unchallenge.  There seems to be a consensus that it's beautiful but very, very sad and now we are all cryin' on a Friday.  My wonderful brain said, "I want to think thinky thoughts about that."

Sheridan returned in The Summoning, at which point he said to Delenn, "I'll never leave you Delenn.  Not if the whole universe stood between us."  Which is sweet, and romantic, and awesome at all (and let's leave "he shoulda laid a big ol' wet one on her in front of everybody" for another time and place) but does he know at this point that he's dying?  That he's only got 20 years left to live and then he MOST CERTAINLY IS LEAVING HER?

Because if he does, he's a goddamn liar.

I suppose it's possible that Lorien forgot to mention that part on their trip back from Z'ha'dum.  I mean, maybe they talked about the weather, or the invention of fire, or super-sekrit sex positions known only to the most ancient of ancients that he thinks Sheridan is worthy enough to try out.  It's possible Lorien heard him say that to Delenn and went, "Ummm... oops, forgot to tell him about his ticking clock, perhaps I ought to say something before he promises her they'll grow old together or some stupid Human thing like that."

But it seems to me that they had the whole trip back from the rim, and that takes awhile and so IT MIGHT HAVE COME UP.

"I was dead.  Now I'm not.  How's that, then?"
"Oh, I totes gave you some of my life force.  No big, but - you should know it's limited warranty.  Here, have an orange."

And it seems to me that if Sheridan did know, he ought not to have made that promise.  If I was Delenn, I'd have been a wee bit pissed when I connected the dots and told him where to stick his ring.  Minbari don't exactly take kindly to that "untruthful" thing.

The only other option I can think of is that Sheridan, being Sheridan, still figured he could negotiate more time into his lifespan.  This is possible, and makes him a not-liar.  He's always said he doesn't believe in the undefeatable enemy, so maybe he now sees death as that enemy.  "I can fix this, if I could just figure out a way."  Or something.  That's entirely possible.  (Except that means he hadn't truly accepted and embraced his death, which seemed to be a fundamental condition of being able to have that death and get off Z'ha'dum, and also makes him a liar when he says to her "I saw my own death and accepted it.")

Maybe he accepts the death, but not the 20-year deadline?

This is making my head hurt way too much for a Friday.

At least if he's a liar, he's a damn good looking liar.
