Test results from both the colonoscopy and the endometrial biopsy came back clean. Notes for those of you who may have to experience either in the future:
Colonoscopy: FOBT came back positive: doctor's instructions went from Get a flexible sigmoidoscopy sometime to You're scheduled for a colonoscopy right the hell now. Prep is worse that the procedure. Twenty-four hours of clear liquids, followed by 4 liters of the laxitive rough equivalent to Drano. I was raw before it all left the system (which it did PDQ, with burning towards the end). Followed by eight hours of nothing to eat or drink at all. By contrast, the hardest part of the procedure was the IV, which I actually got used to. The Demerol knocked me right out; Thomas woke me up in recovery and they gave me lovely color pictures of parts of me *I* never expected to see. I stayed semi-awake for ice cream and the ride home, then slept like a big dog for the next six hours, got up long enough to eat something and surf the internets a little, and slept till noon the next day. They took two polyps, but I never felt any aftereffects.
Endometrial biopsy: Once you're really stuck into menopause, any menstrual lapsing is going to buy you one of these. I figured I was done two years ago, then had an entire, unaccountable period in October. (And what a rude shock that was. How soon we forget--I was like, OH, this is DISGUSTING. I take back every bad thing I ever said about menopause.) In any case, you know you're in trouble when they just flat tell you it's going to hurt. Shrieking occurred. The Gyn was not surprised. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have never experienced pregnancy. After all that, it was almost a letdown to have nothing come of it. Note I said almost.
So the upshot is, I'm just fine, thanks.
