I don't want to jinx anything, but my throat seems to be looking a little more even in color. I hope that is a good sign, after a week now of being on meds.
Work was a bit rough this week. Mon-Wed wasn't too bad. One of my coworkers is on vacation and due back on Mon 7/30, so myself and the other person on our team have been covering for her and sharing her work. It wasn't too bad with the both of us there. Thursday, I was the only person from our team there, so I was covering all of Production Support myself. Of course that was the day that we got absolutely slammed with work, mainly from one person, and I even had to go in to my boss at one point and tell her I was drowning. It was all completely avoidable, too. We have access to the email box for the coworker out on vacation. She never told us anything about this particular vendor that sent a million emails on Thursday, so I had to go back through her folders to see if I could find anything similar to see how to handle it. Her email folders are so incredbly disorganized, and over half of them are empty or haven't had anything new for several years! Why keep them?! The cherry on top was when I looked up the invoices the vendor was asking about. Turns out, they sent them to my coworker bwetween Nov 2017 - Apr 2018, and my coworker never even read them!!! Even better was that she didn't read any of the follow-ups the vendor sent. Like, are you serious? That would explain why they never got processed and paid! I ranted to my boss a bit about it. The work should have been completed back when it was sent. I really wonder if the vendor heard my coworker was out, so she figured she would push everything on us now so we could actually get it handled since the coworker wasn't doing anything. Seriously, my coworker has been sitting back there for weeks planning out her trip to SDCC and Canada, and telling the rest of us all about it. She is also incredbly chatty and spends at least 1.5 hours every day socializing and not doing her work. So anyway, I did what I could, and apologized to the vendor on behalf of my coworker that a few of the things she sent will have to wait, since my coworker never told us how this vendor is handled. I mean, I guess it's not handled, since she never reads their emails. She has nearly 1000 unread emails in all of her folders. That's absolutely insane.
The other most talkative coworker in my area was out all week, too. It was so quiet this week, and between the 4 (out of 8) of us there on any given day, we got a lot of work done! Normally I wear these big noise-cancelling headphones from the moment I clock in to the moment I clock out, but I actually enjoyed the peace and quiet most of the time. My boss usually comes around in the morning to check in and greet everyone, and one morning she pointed out that I didn't have my headphones on yet and I must be liking all the quiet. I laughed. She knows me so well already! That second chatty coworker is the one who was shouting and using foul language so loudly while one of our cowrokers was on the phone that the coworker had to apologize and call the vendor back later that day. She is just so incredibly unprofessional in every way, and I don't understand why she is still employed here. All she does is rant and yell and cuss everyone out all day. I may be 30+ years younger than her, but there have been moments where I very nearly turned around to rip her a new one for the way she spoke about or even to her vendor contacts. But alas, I am still the newest person on the team and don't want to risk my own job. The worst part is that my boss knows. She even knows about the vacationing coworker always socializing, but my boss is just way too nice and doesn't know how to approach, discipine, or really even talk sternly to her underlings. She is great at what she does with just the exception of handling the tough interpersonal conversations. Sigh.
Work is in the process of installing new LED lighting to replace the flourescents. They did our area Thursday night, and when I walked in Friday morning I had to put my sunglasses back on! I wasn't the only one, either. Supposedly, the lights are only at 80%. I walked in excepting to hear a choir of angels and see myself in a white robe, because that coud be the only reason it could be so freaking bright. 80% my tired behind. Apparently they are going to leave it at 80% for a week or two, then adjust as they deem necessary... We're the ones that work there, shouldn't we be the ones who decide if it is too bright?
Anyway, not much is up this weekend. I will be working on my application to renew my lease with a co-signer, so that once October rolls around I will be on my own (almost entirely). I will also be filling out an application for an online business degree that my work is offering through a college up by their US headquarters. Work will pay for it entirely, so I signed up for more info right away. I miss school. I love learning anything and everything.
Hope you all are having a pleasant weekend!
