Merry Christmas, everyone! To those who don't celebrate, sincere well wishes for you all, as well~ I don't get into the religious side of it, but I do love the feeling that for even a few days people start to think more before speaking and acting, and take even a little time to show to others that they care. Even if I'm wrong, I still prefer my little bubble of thinking positively over the cold outside. It provides hope, and hope keeps people existing and moving forward.
I hope everyone has been having a wonderful weekend! Have you been up to anything exciting? Do you have any fun traditions for this time of year?
My weekend has been surprisingly quiet. I know I've said it before, but things get prett yturbulent with my family for next to no reason. This is the hardst time of year for us, but somehow everyone has kept it actually nice this weekend. I am almost looking forward to tomorrow, exchanging gifts, seeing my brother and his wife, and even seeing my uncle and his family. I haven't seen my one cousin (we'll call them Zel) in years. He went through a pretty bad quarter-life crisis a couple years back, during his senior year of college. It led to him droping out with one semester left and mooching off of his parents from everal states away. I don't know why/how, but they are paying for him and his girlfriend to live several states away (as in paying all of their bills, giving them money for food, and even givng them spending money). His girlfriend works in retail as a manager, but he has been working on and (mostly) off as a busboy in a small diner, working two nights a week. It hurts me to hear he is living like that. He was like a little brother to me, and I have always given him as much support as I could from here, but he cut pretty much everyone out and this will be his first trip bak in almost a year. When he does visit, it is for maybe 48 hours max. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing him again.
I'm curious to see what my family thinks of the gifts that I got for them. only one of the gifts is anything that can really be used regularly, but still. I hope they like them and don't just go home and donate it to charity. I always worry people do that when I get them gifts, and it makes the whole gift-giving thing so stressful. For my oldest brother, I got him two books of random trivia. He likes to read books about "strange but true" facts and the like, so every couple of years I get him another book or two. He will randomly start spouting weird facts from them once in a while, so I hope that means he still likes them. Fo rmy other brother I got him a football-themed drinking game. He and his friends are in their late twenties and they still enjoy partying (even his wife and her friends are in the same phase). They also do fantasy football leagues and get together for football games, so I hope they enjoy it. For my sister-in-law I got her a board game called Cats. It looks like pictionary, but with funny pictures of cats to doodle on. She is obssessed with all things cats (thy have two of their own), and the two of them do board game nights with their friends, so hopefully they are interested and it provides them with some ausement. For my parents, I got them a joint gift, and then something small each. Their joint gift is a George Foreman grill (the one with the removeable plates). For my father I got a set of pen styluses (styli?) for his new iPad Pro that his company gifted hm at their holiday party, and for my mother I got her a Liz Climo page-a-day calendar. I show her Liz Climo comics pretty often at work, and she always seems to find them adorable, so I hope they can brighten her day throughout 2018.
Last weekend at D&D we had a fun holiday gift exchange before we started our session. I still feel really new to the group and kind of like an outsider, so I brought my gift for Draco and a case of festive mini cupcakes for everyone else to share. They all really enjoyed them. Fro Draco, I got hm a D20 mug that has a lid. Inside of it I hid a small ornament of a sparkley diet coke can. He drinks diet coke as though he requires it to survive, and he constantly complains that he has none, so now he will always have a can of diet coke in his apartment. I figured it would get a chuckle, but they all thought it was the most hilariously fitting gift possible. I was surprised that a few of them actually got me a gift! Brony gave me a really nice wax seal kit with my initial and a queen's crown on it. He said "Since you've been getting really into D&D, this seemed kind of fitting. And now should you get into DMing you can make some official-looking props!" I was really taken aback by the gift, since he always complains about how expensive everything is (and that set was probably $25+), and by the fact that he got me anything at all. I still don't care mch for him as a person, but I do appreciate the thoughtful gift and am looking forward to using it in the future. Jerboa got me a really pretty wriitng journal. He and I had gone gift shopping together a few weekends before, and he saw me gushing over the writing journals in the bookstore, so he got one for me. It is shades of purple, with a green and shiny gold drgon on the front. I don't think I have mentioned this third guy yet, but we will call him Flash. Flash got me a small official figurine of one of the characters from Destony 2. So now I have a little Zavala to go with my pop vinyl of Cayde-6. Draco got me a D&D coloring book. I was kind of surprised, because we had been out holiday shopping the weekend before and had flipped through that very same book, talking about the pictures and the lore. He had asked me if I was going to byu it, but I said no because I couldn't justify that much on a coloring book at the moment, even though I knew I would really enjoy it (I have a bunch of coloring books, adult and kid, because I find coloring very therapeutic and also fun). So apparently he had snuck off later that evening when his parents had joined us for shopping, and had picked it up for me. It was really nice of him~
With that, I will wrap this up. I have to get my boys all ready for their little photoshoot I make them do every Christmas Eve, because the world needs more adorable pictures of sugar gliders. I know it sounds cruel, but the little guys get plenty of snacks out of it, so they put up with me for at least 5 minutes. Long enough to get a couple good shots before they run away =^.^= I'll try to remember to share the best ones in another post!
Stay toasty and have a great holiday, everyone!
