Novak has go after he gets Phoenix settled - he's a slave to his phone, right? - but when he has a couple minutes of free time, he returns. He's a fairly concerned-looking lizardman, leaning over Phoenix's bed and taking stock of his injuries.

"What, my dearest spikey-headed friend, have you gotten yourself into this time. Were you kidnapped again?"

He blinks, then chuckles. "Oh God, I'm a running gag. No, it was just me being a cocky ass and paying for it," he replies, shaking his head. "I should've realized EXACTLY how dangerous he was, but I just wanted to feel like I had the upper hand for a change. Ha."

He rubs his face. "I'm really an idiot sometimes," he adds, somewhat bitterly.

"That blonde jerk, right? I mean, I don't exactly like blaming serious injuries on their givers, but you know, psychopaths, not really the best kind of people to be cocky with. They may, you know, snap your wrist. Good clean break, though. He could have, you know, made it need pins or something. Clever breaking your objecting finger. Okay, I'll shut up. Anyway, need anything? Water? Food? His head?"

:D?

[Oh good God, he's admiring the form.] Phoenix shakes off this rather disturbing train of thought and focuses on Novak. "Um, no, I'm good. I doubt they'll keep me much longer, either; there's nothing really life-threatening. And, well, I'm not really a head-hunting type. Eh heh..."

He pauses. "Still... it's a little discomforting that he's just out there, still able to hurt somebody else some way or another, and I don't have a clue what to do about it..." he admits, looking somewhat troubled.

"Oh... okay, then." He chuckles, shoving his hands in the pockets of his shorts and giving a shrug, as if this was casual discussion material. becuase it is.

"That's unsettling, though." serious face? "I agree. And if he managed to do this to you pretty quick, who knows what he could do in a couple of months. Yeugh. Some people? Downright scum. Maybe you could.. track him down in his world and discredit him back?"

He closes his eyes. "I don't think it'd be that difficult to discredit him considering he's a death row escapee. And if he has a PIN, he'd probably just get the hell out of Dodge and be even MORE dangerous." He opens them again. "I think, maybe, from here on out, if I ever have to deal with him, I'm going to try and have to maintain some subtlety. Assuming, of course, he's ever stupid enough to show his face anywhere in the Nexus I'd be hanging around anyway."

Phoenix heaves a sigh. "The Nexus sure knows how to make things difficult for people," he adds, shaking his head.

"Oh, I know what I'll do if I ever see him in the Nexus again." He just lets the words hang, and with a little shrug and a smile, he paces the room, crossing his hands behind his back, tail waving a bit behind him. "Yeah, I imagine you've probably figured out by now that rubbing shit in his face is a pretty bad idea. Though......I'm not sure. Maybe you need a second go-around."

Grin.

Phoenix quite fervently puts out of his mind what Novak will do. Considering this is the same guy who bit the hand off a clone of a clone of SUPERMAN, for Christ's sake, he's sure Novak's future dealings with Kristoph would require a lot of stain remover. And barbecue sauce.

He hurks a bit. "No no! I'm fine! I'm good! Learned my lesson!" he stammers, waving his hands back and forth. "Doesn't mean I'm just going to roll over and take what he dishes; I just need to find better techniques for getting to the bottom of things. Preferably ones that don't involve losing my pointing finger for six weeks." He looks at his hand.

Phoenix mulls for a bit then adds, almost to himself, "...still, this injury is better than what could've been -- and better than what I've been dealing with for a month. At least this is going to heal."

He sits on the edge of Phoenix's bed and pats his spikes, laughing. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I would never do that to you. I'm far too fond of you to do something crazy like that. Or let anyone else do it, for that matter. I don't really think it was the getting to the bottom thing that broke your finger, I think it was the rubbing it in the face of a psychopath thing. But hey, what do I know?"

He pushes back off the bed, sitting a hospital chair. "In all seriousness, I'm glad that all you got off with is a busted wrist and a snapped finger. I mean, you still have your badge, right? You've changed the future? I knew you could do it."

An encouraging smile.

"Yeah, well nobody ever said I was the brightest bulb in the package. Most people say the exact opposite, actually," he groans. "Temptation was a little too much to resist, I guess. Besides," he adds, shooting a sidelong glance and a crooked smile at Novak, "you're not exactly the one to be lecturing me on self restraint here."

He nods, and looks contemplative. "Yeah... but it wasn't exactly me that did it. Luck, more like." He shakes his head. "A fucking poker game... a goddamn poker game decided whether or not I'd take the case that ended my career. Can you believe that?"

"True. And... yeah. Maybe I'm not exactly the kind of guy to tell you to hold back. But hey, I'm seven feet tall and four hundred pounds, so you know, it's much, much more difficult to beat the shit out of me than it is to beat the shit out of you, so I'm okay with my utter lack of restraint." He gives him a smug little smirk.

"Phoenix, I've dealt with a lot of fucked-up ids, and I totally, totally believe he flipped over a poker game."

He sighs. "Point. But even if it was for that moment, it felt good, somehow, you know? It was stupid, but I don't entirely regret it." He shakes his head. "But we've established I'm kind of an idiot."

He frowns. "It wasn't just any poker game. Apparently he lost a job as the result of a poker game, and carried the resentment over to me for getting the job in his place. It's all so damn petty when it comes down to it."

Something occurs to him, then. "But if that's the case... that means his brother was just a tool in the whole situation. After all, he may have used it to disbar me in his world, but Kristoph used it to win a case against him." He frowns a bit. "Who would do that to their own brother?"
